From Brownwood, Tx and I am about to move to Odessa for a job in the golf business. I am an avid hunter and I am going to miss alot of hunting on our lease that is close to Brady. Can anyone tell me if there are any good hunting opportunites, or what the hunting is like in the area. I would like to get a lease if at all possible within the area but im not sure how the hunting is, or if they even have whitetail. please help, any advice is much appreciated!!

Thank you! Yes this does help out alot. I've been doing some research the last few days as well, because hunting is the only thing that keeps me sane!! I noticed they were in a 5 deer county which must mean they have some deer compared to Ector County and Crane. Not to mention that Upton county borders Crockett which I know has good deer! Do you happen to have an idea as to how far Rankin is from the Odessa/Midland area?

Rankin is about 55 miles due south out of Midland.  Take highway 349 and keep going.  I used to live in Midland and they have some very good whitetails and muleys in Upton County, though not all ranches are created equal.  There are actually some 'muletails' (whitetail-muley crosses) around too.  I've not seen them myself, but several hunters I know out there have.

There is also good hunting SE of Midland in the Sterling City area and as close as Garden City.  I worked in the oil fields South of Midland in the 70's and 80's and the largest bodied and largest rack of any whitetail deer I have ever seen was about 40 miles south of Midland.  There are lost of deer toward Snyder also.  You will just have to ask around but leases are out there.  Good luck.

I am from Odessa and currently living in Denton, TX. Whitetail are hit or miss in Ector/Midland County. That being said, I will be hunting a 200 acre patch of Midland County this year that Monahan's draw crosses and pools up on. There are definitely some monsters around, and hunting pressure is less severe than you would find farther south. As said above, wing shooting is prime, especially blue quail and mourning dove. Also keep in mind that excellent waterfowl hunting is a little over an hour north of you around Lubbock. Good luck, and happy hunting.

Does anyone know the B&C record for Midland, Co.?
