I want to share a story of a hunt that I was invited on a couple years ago by a family doctor out of San Antonio named Dr. Pinkley.  He runs a small office off I-10 and Dezavala where my wife was employed when we first moved to San Antonio from Corpus Christi.  Dr. Pinkley recently purchased a beautiful piece of land just north of Freer TX and decieded to offer hunting as an employee benefit to help cull some of the deer on his property.  Now, this was not the first time I have been lucky enough to get invited to go hunting because of employment opportunity, rather I was first introduced into hunting years ago by my father who recieved an invite to harvest some does on the famous Berry Ranch in Tilden TX while he was an employee for Berry Contracting.

What made this hunt so special was that I really enjoy spending as much time out in the woods as possible and I have to say that hunting on Dr. Pinkley's ranch that day was a memorable hunt for me.  The ranch was kept in excellent condition and a healthy deer population was present.  As I sat in the blind that cold December morning I continously saw deer after deer walking in shooting distance of the blind.  Even though I was there to harvest a doe, just sitting in the blind viewing wildlife like that is amazing.  The bonus of the hunt was seeing several nice "young" bucks eating at the protein feeder and passing by in the sendero.

This ranch's habitat was in great condition and there were plenty of feeding stations and a nice tank for the wildlife to find a quality water source.  The blinds and feeders were well kept.  The best part of the ranch for me is that you could not even find one piece of trash anywhere that we walked that day, just a well maintained piece of property.  I know that Dr. Pinkley spends alot of hours and weekend time to ensure his property is in great condtion.  The wildlife must really enjoy living on that little piece of heaven.

I want to take the time to personally thank Dr. Pinkley and his wife Irma for allowing me to visit their private paradise and to harvest a healthy doe that year.  I wish that my wife was still an employee of his Doctor's office so I could still spend some quality time hunting other species of wildlife at their ranch.  My wife has since moved on to another job and unfortunately they don't offer hunting as an employee benefit.  I am thankful to have had the opportuntiy to have my family treated with the kindness and respect that was given to me, my wife and my two sons from the Pinkley Family.  I will always the remember the great opportunity I had to visit their ranch in Freer TX and sharing the wonderful meat of the doe I harvested with my family.  Once again, Thank you Dr. Pinkley for the invitation to hunt at your ranch and I hope good things come from your hard work on the beautiful piece of property you own in Freer TX.

Its amazing how great the fruits of generosity are and how few folks show that kindness these days.  You and your family would have had far fewer outdoors memories if it weren't for Dr. Pinkley and his family.  I know my two sons would never have had the hunting experiences they did if it were not for a very gracious landowner in WTX.

Then generosity continues on still due to the fact that I hunt on my wife's uncle's property in Mathis TX and the hunting lease my dad is a memeber of in Benavides TX is a family owned ranch where they are extremely nice enough to allow guest on the property and I can hunt with my dad at their ranch.

I think it is great that you took time to write such a nice sentiment to the offerings from Dr. Pinkley. I can tell you that your children will remember this time for their entire life. As a kid I spent a lot of time hunting with my Granddad, Dad, and Uncles down in Refugio and West Columbia. From all of my memories, these are the most fondest memories of all of them and these stories always get told.

Also, some of my best hunts were spent watching wildlife rather than just shooting something. As you also mentioned just getting to watch deer.
