History of EBS - Dr. W.H. Cardwell, Founder

In 2004, Elgin Breeding Service reached an important milestone. Fifty years of pioneering success and discovery, bringing you the very best in frozen bovine semen. A lot has changed over the last fifty years. One thing has remained constant: our devotion to quality.

Dr. W.H. Cardwell was the first veterinarian to setup practice in Bastrop County opening his first office in Elgin, TX in 1951. Dr. Cardwell went on to be instrumental in building what is considered to be the largest veterinary hospital in the United States.

In the early days, Dr. Cardwell quickly established himself as a bovine reproductive expert. In 1954, his work led him to semen collection and freezing. EBS was born. EBS outgrew the facilities at the veterinary hospital and a new facility was built in 1976. The EBS Texas operations continue at this state-of-the-art facility to this day.
