The motto of the Houston Gulf Coast SCI First for Hunters (HGC-SCI) is to Conserve and Protect (conserve wildlife and protect the hunter).

HGC protects hunters' rights by actively lobbying on behalf of hunters at a state, provincial, and federal level. This is a chapter of the premier global hunting organization SCI First for Hunters. They are among the organizers of the Congressional Sportsman's Caucus and are very active in the Congressional Sportsman's Foundation, working closely with the legislative members of the Caucus.

The mission of the HGC-SCI is to promote education, conservation, legislation, and humanitarian services. They are dedicated to pursuing the Safari Club's goals, locally and globally.

Established in 1996 by a small group of Houston area sportsmen, HGC-SCI First for Hunters has enjoyed a steady growth in membership and is building an international reputation as a great hunting organization. Located in the Houston, Texas, area on the upper coastal bend near the Gulf of Mexico shoreline, they are dedicated to promoting good fellowship among those who love the outdoors and the sport of hunting. They are conservationists who hunt.

The members are committed to passing the hunting tradition, which is their heritage, on to their youth through educational programs, hunting experiences, and wildlife conservation projects. The community of SCI hunters promotes strong family values and teaches young hunters about hunting and the role hunters play in sustainable wildlife conservation.

Habitat and wildlife must be kept in balance and carefully managed hunting is one of the best ways to accomplish this. They know that the active support and participation of hunting conservationists is largely responsible for the salvation and renewal of wildlife in North America and throughout the world.

The Houston Gulf Coast Chapter's purpose and intent includes operating as a non-profit organization and actively supporting charitable purposes while providing enjoyment for their members, always with the goal of conserving the animals we love to hunt today for those who will come to love the sport tomorrow.
