Saturday, July 14, 2007, five miles south of Cuero, Texas - which is an hour southeast of San Antonio - two gray, unidentified animals were found – this time apparently hit by vehicles.
One of those two was in front of the 7C ranch owned by Phylis and Steve Carion, who have ranched in Cuero since 2002. Phylis also is a Board Certified Nutritional Consultant and owns the 7C sports clothing shop in Cuero.
Texas Parks and Wildlife said this was a "mangy coyote." But Phylis Carion doesn't agree.
What do you think it is?

RE: Two Strange Hairless Animals found in Cuero, Texas
Good interesting post. It looks more like my friend Marias chiuaua cross dog than a Chupacabra to me, but still interesting. The teeth look like its a mature animal. I don't believe the undercoat or skin on a coyote is quite this color through and through though. Hmm? I read the ladys interview from the 7C, and at least, there's some excitement down Cuero way other than horned toads and snakes. Keep us up on anything with this story if you can.

RE: Two Strange Hairless Animals found in Cuero, Texas
While working for a branch of the USDA called Wildlife Services as a biologist another "Chupacabra" was found by an eight year old boy who shot it while squirrel hunting near Tyler, TX. I was working the area at the time and everywhere I went people kept asking me about the "chupacabra" they saw on the local news. When I tried to explain that these things usually turn out to be a coyote with mange they always would say "Well I've seen mange before and this wasn't mange." People fail to realize that rare, extreme cases of mange can cause major deformities to the skin, drastically altering an animals appearance.
RE: Two Strange Hairless Animals found in Cuero, Texas
I have seen photos of several of these most turned out to be foxes or coyotes that were suffering from severe mange or simple had lost all their hair for some reason. Pretty ugly like those dogs that were in the ugliest dog contests.

Well, I just couldn't resist emailing Linda Moulton Howe about the groups reaction to the pictures and story of the Cuera, Texas "Hairless Creature." She appears to agree with the coyote mange theory... her email response is below:
Hi, Chris,
Yes, I think the Cuero, Texas, animals are coyotes with severe mange and I'm doing an Earthfiles this coming week (on CoastToCoast Am with George Noory) with a mange expert about them.
However, mange does not clearly explain the Elmendorf or Pollok animals of 2004 and 2005.
Sincerely,
Linda Moulton Howe

In reference to Fox News, they regularly are biased on most issues. Probably on time mostly but doing a real injustice with it's reporting. And people believe the reporting comments. Can't imagine anyone using Fox as a legitimate news source. Maybe for entertainment purposes if you need to look at reporting and how funny and biased it can be.
RE: Two Strange Hairless Animals found in Cuero, Texas
It's a raccoon with mange. Look at the hands and the tattered striped coloration on the tail. While they look a lot different without any hair and the skin deformities caused by mange, that one's a no brainer.

Those animals have to be miserable. I thought about Scabies as well as mange. If Mange feels as bad as Scabies, then it is horrible. I caught a batch of Scabies once while Bow-hunting antelope near Carlsbad, N.M. The little boogers set up housekeeping under my right arm-pit and it felt like a pin cushion for a while there. Low and behold I caught up with them again the next spring while Turkey Hunting. Realized they were in the sleeping bag. LOL

See at 29'', and the 5'41'' to 5'43''. Thats what I saw 5'43.
I've never seen racoons hop like kangaroos and run like hell with front feet together and back feet together in a gallop!
I think there are several types of animals being called "chupacabras". I saw 2 that moved like coyotes (heads low, eyes forward, sneaky), that had tan fur, eyes that reflected golden in spotlight, and long rear legs like a kangaroo.
