I thought this was the deer, what looks like a deer little up and to the right of the one in the first picture.. missed the "closer" one altogether. 

How far away was he?

The photo makes it look farther away than the buck really was. It was about 50 yards. We were sitting there glassing the canyon and base of the hill when we noticed the movement right in front of us.

Good job bringing out how hard it is to see the elusive mulie.  I've hunted Stovall ranch now for five years and to this day every hunt is a true challange.  I had a chance to hunt Audad on Horseshoe Mesa this year.  Man what a trip.. Keep'em coming.

As I have been told by a lot of old timers, for every deer that you see there will be 10 that you miss. They are really good at blending in with the country.
