I'm about to move to Austin, TX and need information on hunting in the area. Is there any waterfowling around Austin (within 1 hour drive)? I have a boat and a dog, so I'd love to find a spot near Austin to hunt this coming winter.

hey Brian, there is some public hunting at lake Granger, but I have only killed two ducks there. The colorado river is the place to go. I take my john boat there. Last season I killed gadwalls, wigeon, teal, spoonies, and saw sprigs. No mallards. Farm ponds are best if you can gain acsess.

Well the hole river is public as long as you stay in the water. What I do is look for public acsess points like road crossings on google maps. launch my boat and run up or down stream. I hunt east of the airport. Walk in hunting is possible if you can find a spot thats not to deep.-greg
