SHAKE

I just wanted to reintroduce myself.  I've lurked for quite awhile and discussed on occasion, but now I've moved to Corpus Christi, TX and I'm ready to get plugged into the local hunting/fishing scene.

Anybody familiar with this part of the state?  I moved down from Arkansas but I've spent about half of the last 3 years deployed overseas so I have some catching up to do.  I have to German Shorthairs that I would like to get onto some quail and I"m interested in chasing a whitetail/hogs on some public land and wading for some redfish.

Thanks for the help.

Welcome Jeremy!  You're in an awesome part of the awesome state for sure.  I would check into Aransas Wildlife Refuge.  I hear it is good hunting.  Of course, there are ducks you can hunt all over the place and if you like to fish I'd recommend getting a kayak from http://www.kayakrockport.com/ and heading to the Lighthouse Lakes on the way to Port A from Rockport.  It's awesome.

You're going to have some really good times there.  Please keep us in touch by posting here.

Hey Jeremy, if you are interested in some great redfish action try surf fishing with cut bait  around the 3rd weekend of Sept. and you will have a blast. You may catch a few sharks also. There should be plenty of bird hunting areas in that part of the state that are run by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, here is a link    http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/  . I hope to make it down to Corpus in late Sept. myself for the action. Welcome to the forum.

Gman,

Let me know when your headed down this way and maybe we can wet a line.  I looked at the Texas game and fish dept online and the public hunting permit looked interesting to me, but the maps hadn't been updated for this year yet.  I don't know how far I'll have to go to find any birds.

If the permit is like it's been before you don't get the maps until you buy the permit. Tricky huh? :)

Welcome to Texas, Hercdriver. Think we corresponded on another board some time ago. You are in hog heaven down in Corpus. Close to good deer, hog, duck, turkey and quail hunting. Plus some outstanding saltwater fishing as well. Do some varmint hunting in Three Rivers as well. I go to Rockport every year to hunt ducks. Get a guy to drop me off on an island and pick me up a few hours later. The dawg and I have a blast out there. I usually go over to Dilley (about 1 1/2 hours from Corpus) to dove hunt - maybe the best in the USA. Let me know when you want to go.

I hate it when i forget to login too.  I wish you could enable some cookies to allow you to login upon page start-up.

Jim we've "spoken" on some of these different boards.  I never could find the gentlman you tried to get me in touch with in AR for quail hunting.  I'm ready to go hunting whenever you are.  I just need to get out and get the stink off.  I was looking around online and Captain Terry of Haun something or rather had dove hunting North of here for $40.  Sounded like a good deal to me but I don't know about the quality of the hunt.  I've only dove hunted once or twice but I think I could learn to enjoy it.  I really like watching my dogs work but I guess they'll get their chance in due time.

How far away are you from Corpus?

Suggest you try Terry Hahn for a bunch of stuff - just not dove hunting. There are much better places to dove hunt than that part of Texas. I hope to go over to near Dilley for opening weekend (don't know which day yet) and you are welcome to meet me over there if you want. Its $60 for the day and you'll see a whole bunch of doves then. Just let me know.
