Hope y'all will let me into your neck a the wood's even though I'm here in "Sweet Home Alabama".  Still, even though I settled here and love it, a part a my heart and blood is truly Texan.  Daddy was from McAllen, lost him in 94.  Still ride his Texas license on the front of my truck and my Sweet Home plate on back.

Lost my job, been three years now, due to a bumb foot... and they wouldn't say it but age had a thing or two to do about it.  After that the state has been letting me hunt disabled areas, plus I got some favorite public land spots.  Real wet this year, mostly swamp now because of so much rain - still managed to get five this season... two I gave to poorer folks, and one to my daughter.  Two in freezer will do the wife and I good till next season.

Got a recipe for y'all.  Take some whitetail cube stakes.  Marinate them in Dale's sauce (hope you can get it - come's from Birmingham - can order from internet).  Overnight in fridge.  Make it 50 / 50 Dale's and water.  Then take some fresh Jalapinos and de-vain and de-seed.  Sick one J on the edge of a cube stake and roll the stake over it.  Now take a piece a good bacon and roll this around the cube stake. The finish is to hold em together with tooth picks.  And it's BBQ time.

Anyway back on track.  Daddy settled in CA after WW2.  Marine, fought in the Pacific, and he would take me to McAllen a few times when I was real little to see Grampa and Grandmama.  I have never forgot, not the beauty of that area, but the beauty of the people.  To this day I have never met a Texan that I did not like.  Guess it's the South or somethin.  People got deeper roots.

Anyway, y'all got the big deer, too many hogs, and fine people.  Hope youll let this Old Alabamian into the family.  We got purdy good deer, not too many hogs, southern hospality, and anybody from Texas is welcome here.

WD,

Great having you...c'mon in and hope you feel at home.

Sorry to hear about your foot, but its great that the state of Alabama will let you in some of those special areas.  We're trying to do something about the hogs over here, but for now they seem to be winnin'.  Oh well, practice, practice, practice!!

Heard there is good dove hunting in Alabama, but cant beat the dove hunting in the Rio Grande Valley.  Texas is a great state and the people can definitely be welcoming.  Hope you make your way back to Texas soon to enjoy some great sporting opportunity.

thanks for the write back y'all. i purdy much stay local with so much too do in the woods and fields here. never thought about being a hog killer untill a buddy gave me a shoulder a couple weeks ago.  this immediately drove my wife happy crazy, kinda 'slap your mama' type good (a common alabama talk) meaning we were all crazy love for it.  Anyway we can kill em all year long here just like you... but got fewer of em, thank God. the bad is that public land will not allow bait, and I only hunt public land - so i got to somehow work around this problem. anyway got to start doing a lot a thinkin bout this.  Any suggestions?  My only side arm is Daddy's old 38 special.  Maybe not so good if i don't have time to slam another slug into my 270, or arrow into my bow.

The only thing you might try is looking for their wallows along streams and wet areas.  They also rut-up an area pretty well when they're feeding.  Also, look for buzzards...I've seen 'em eat on carrion (dead carcasses) at times.

OlAlabamma,

search the internet for sow in heat  lure or hot boar lure. they are both sex based (phermones) lures  (not  a bait) that should bring in either of the opposite sex to the area where you want to hunt.

I would use them in a scent dripper to keep the hogs in the area, and

choose a place not to far from the road. easier walking distance.

You should have a freezer full by end of next month!

Remember......

As ye think so shall ye be.
