I think there would be a number of gins further up toward the panhandle that still have piles of cottonseed still on the ground.  I was thinking of getting a load on my way up the first of April.  Great protein and the mule deer love it!!

I would just try to contact feed stores and cotton gins that gin year round, we use cottonseed on our ranch and the deer love it, some times they prefer it more then corn and other food sources!!!

I will keep calling around. In the meantime I will get my feeders ready. I really like it that the feral hogs don't like it.

I am tired of feeding them! Getting ready to put pens around all the feeders because of them. I have managed to keep the racoons out (finally), now just the pigs.

Sharon Do you run cottonseed through a spin cast feeder?

Nope! Going to put it out in 2 different types of feeders. I would like to keep it protected and off the ground with all the rain that we have had (not complaining).

When it dries up, I will just do the 2 t-post and wire feeders.

I don't know that it will go through spincast feeder. Or at least not the seed with the lint still on it.

Speaking of cottonseed, Rowena Feeds out of Rowena, TX. makes a protein pellet from cottonseed.  Rowena is located about 25 miles NE of San Angelo.  Our rancher has been using it for a couple of years now and swears by it.  Here's some pics of a buck taken on his place last year south of Sonora.

A little to far for me to drive. And I am trying to move to either free access feed or gravity feeders. Tired of messing with batteries, solar panels, etc.
