I am thinkin about buying a marlin.45-70 never shot one before... i was wondering if anyone had any feedback or experience with one that i should consider before buying...

I absolutely love mine. I would suggest the Hornady Leverevolution ammo for it, if you decide to buy one.

Guns don't kill people....Its those pesky little bullets making lots of holes that all the blood leaks out of.

I had a modle 1895 when I was about 12 or 13. Dad would reload 300 grain bullets for me so the recoil wasn't so bad. Never got to shoot a deer, but loved the gun.

I just bought one myself.  Marlin 1895G.  The reason I bought that gun is because I like my T/C hawken .45 cal. black powder.  The T/C loaded with 100 gr. of black powder shoots a 280 gr. lead  bullet at around 1800 fps.  Almost exactly the same as factory 300 gr 45/70.  I have shot 2 deer and one hog with my T/C, and they all three folded up like a wet napkin.  I was surprised at the lack of meat damage.  And the 45-70 did not kick nearly as hard as I had anticipated.  Can't wait til next season.  The Marlin Guide gun will be my primary deer gun in 2010.
