Wed March 24th update:
TOTAL AND SUPREME VICTORY! Black Hog Down. 200lb Trophy Russian Boar 3" Cutters (see photos below and link to my writeup at bottom).
I went to www.wildboaroutfitters.com in winnsboro, tx. Marcus Keith has hog detection superpowers and is a genuinely great guy!
If you are going solo or if you can book a WEEKDAY hunt! If hunt camps run weekdays they usually have openings! I was able to stalk with Marcus here and shot the trophy of a lifetime! Was scheduled to hunt 2 days. arrived Mon Mar 22nd at 3pm, shot trophy that will be mounted and since I could not accomplish anything better I was home in DFW by 10pm.
I trained extensively for this as I have never hunted anything before and made a difficult shot (see link below).
www.wildboaroutfitters.com (tell him the newbie who shot the russian trophy boar sent you!

Opinions needed for paid hog hunts - will be my first time to hunt ever.
Live in DFW.
I have been preparing by printing, reading and rereading sites like this and www.texasboars.com and all over youtube watching hog hunt vids. too much to type.
From research I have done, paid hunt is best way for someone like me who does not have friends who are baiting the land and no practical experience.
From this site, I know which paid hunt to stay away from (nothing more needs to be said).

Looking at these:

Primary Weapon of Choice - Romanian PSL (like Dragunov). 30 cal round. 203gr sp. shots look like they are under 100 yds (usually 50). Semi auto w/ 10 round mag. This is the weapon I will take. Will talk to the hunting camp about this before I go.
2nd - 223 Savage Rifle with Accutrigger - would shoot the Winchester 223 'Deer' round that Academy sells. From what I have read, most of the hunt places do not want you to use a 223. This is the only 'hunting rifle' I have. I have been on military surplus weapons. Never thought I would go hunting so I bought something cheap to shoot at the range. After watching the youtube vids of the guys with 223 kill shots I think I could make this work
3rd choices - Yugoslavian Mauser and SKS (dont laugh) see me shoot these at 300 yards, no scope at steel plate size of sheet of copy paper with the cheapest surplus ammo I can buy. After I shoot a couple of hogs I will take one of these.

I have only been seriously shooting for 4.5 years. Anyone who has been with me says I was ready to hunt years ago. I would not go if I didnt think I could make the shot. Need to get over the first time of seeing game (when my heart will jump out of my chest) and make the shot. Hunt shots are different from bench shooting and I have been practicing hunt shots
