Hog Hunting Questions (don't laugh!)

This is going to sound crazy and I'm probably going to get ridiculed, but here goes nothing.

So, I've got this group of friends - including my boyfriend and his ex-marine buddy - who have talked for years about going on a week long excursion someplace to hunt wild hogs. Thing is, they are rather... old-fashioned. All of them are skilled in martial arts with various weaponry of the bladed kind and they have this idea of doing an old traditional hog-hunt... with boar-spears. You know, the kind with the cross-bar to keep the animal from goring you as it impales itself?

As far as I know, there's no shortage of wild hogs to hunt. But I'm not sure if there's any place they can actually go DO this. I mean, one, you'd have to have someone driving the animals toward the people with the spears, since it's not like they'll just volunteer to shishkabob themselves. And that's assuming they find a place that'll let them hunt using spears on their land in the first place!

So... somebody tell me: is this a completely hair-brained idea, or is there a possibility this could actually be put together? Yes, it risks potentially severe bodily harm, but I think that's half the reason they want to do it this way. More exciting, requires confidence and skill and all that. I'm fairly certain they'd sign almost any waiver put in front of them for the chance to run a boar through with a spear. It's that primal stab-meat-eat-it thing. At least two of them know how to field dress a boar, and more than half know how to cook one up. They'd have their own field medic on hand holding down camp, and all of them have some kind of health insurance... you know, just in case.

So what's the likelihood that this could get off the ground?

I have only heard of using spears when hogs are hunted with dogs.  Trying to herd hogs in a certain direction is very unlikely, when spooked they usually scatter to the 4 winds, so it would be very difficult to do, if not impossible.

It is possible to do.....but the times I've seen it done was with dogsand after the dogs had the pig caught. From my experience in huntung them if you play the wind right and go at them slow and easy you could easily get close enough to throw the spear at a wild pig but I doubt you would be able to get close enough to just "spear" them unles they were cornered or caught already.

HAPPY

Good Luck Elisabeth, Check Utube about hunting hogs with a spear.  If you figure something out I would like to come and watch. LOL
