I've just about given up finding an annual lease (that's also affordable) that isn't 5 hours away from home, or on less than 400 acres. Our group (6 guys) nominated me as the "looker" because I'm retired and have a lot of free time, which is obviously needed for this kind of thing. You would think there would be a decent 700 - 900 acre piece of raw land out there that someone could lease for $12-13 an acre. I suppose the big money has just about killed it for the average hunter that just wants a place to go to get away from work cell phones, tv, etc.

Yeah i have been trying to find a place for me and my boys but i cant afford a thousand dollars a gun and thats just for deer season on three hundred acres. Those days of going out and having a good time hunting with the kids are over unless you have a lot of money or own land

I hear you. We're looking at up to $2000 a gun, and it's like pulling teeth to get anyone interested. You would think in today's economy ( especially farming and ranching ) that someone would like to have $12 to $13k coming in every year for doing nothing but opening a gate.

try the Texas Parks and Wildlife site. Thats where I found the lease we are on and its not much more than 2 grand a gun but its in prime country. If you are looking for a spot in the hill country somewhere...it should not be that hard to find. Also try all the county chamber of commerce sites and give them a call...they will point you in the right direction. 2 grand a gun is still out there and will become even more available as the economy continues to stink.  Unfortunately the 1 grand a gun days are over.
