GOOFY

I got to Padre Island two days before the opening day of the bowhunt and went fishing.  The Mangrove Snappers were biting and caught several. We ate them fresh that evening. They are very good eating fish. Also hooked up with two sting rays supposedly 28 or so inches wide. One broke off my 30 lb test line. I suspect that there was a nick in the line. The bigger one got tangled in a guys line and he was holding my line when the ray broke off.  Next day the weather was mean and so was opening day of the hunt. The hunt went along pretty fast. Opening day was raining and cold. We gave up at noon cold to the bone. Thirty one degrees in Harlingen Texas with heavy humidity is for the birds. Weather got better but no actual shots taken.
Saw one Nilgai cow and small calf, one fast running buck, one doe, and one 200 lb hog. Sitting there the last evening that I hunted, I heard what I thought was a range bull bellowing 1/2 mile away. Then I realized it was closer, much closer and coming toward me. I could tell it was a growl instead of a bull bellowing and the animal making the noise every two seconds. It kept up the growling as it passed by me at forty yards in the thicket and on down the trail it was on out of hearing. Found out later it had been feeding on a deer one of our guys shot the evening before and couldn't find. It had eaten a front shoulder and part of a ham and covered the deer with grass and stuff. They couldn't see any tracks. I've been listening to cat sounds on the computer eliminating cougars but not Jaguars. I didn't see anything and didn't go looking for it either.LOL I know that my bow and arrows are a deadly combination, but the feeling of being inadequately armed was strong. My other weopon is my 6 inch knife. Right about then I would have felt better with my Ruger Vaquero 44 mag. I have the co-ordinates for where I was sitting and where I first heard the sound and last heard the sound.

Sounds like my kind of adventure down south, how was the food?  The only thing missing was some great dove hunting action!!!
