Jimmy Mason of Alabama confirmed Thursday night he will not accept his Bassmaster Elite Series invitation for the 2010 season. Mason qualified through the Bassmaster Southern Open circuit this year. He plans to fish the PAA and Southern Open circuits in 2010, along with his successful guide business on the Tennessee River in Alabama, and attempt to re-qualify for the 2011 season. Mason competed on the Elite Series in 2004 and 2007. ... BassFan.com reported Thursday that longtime pro Pete Gluzek of New Jersey will not accept his Elite Series invitation for 2010 and will continue with the FLW Tour and Bassmaster Northern Open circuits next year. The site also previously reported that Frank Scalish of Ohio will do the same, and that Elton Luce of Texas will not compete on the Elite Series next season but instead will concentrate on the PAA and possibly the FLW Series events. ... Registrations still are being accepted for spots in The Bass University events scheduled in Sacramento (Jan. 9-10), Nashville (Jan. 23-24) and Dallas (Feb. 6-7).
