I am new to the whole public land hunting and was looking if I could get some imput on were I would need to start looking or if maybe yall could tell me somewhere to go. Thanks

Anahuac NWR, McFaddin NWR, Big Boggy NWR and San Bernard NWR are all within reasonable driving distance from Houston and they all can be accessed by foot.  Just google them by name and you should be able to get all the information you need.  Each has a different means of obtaining a spot to hunt (i.e.  you have to call ahead for McFaddin and San Bernard and reserve a spot, have to get in line at Anahuac, they only let in the first 100 hunters and Big Boggy is really the only one that is worry free).  You can give these place a call and they will be able to answer all your questions.  I have found them to all be great places to hunt when you are first starting out.  Anahuac might be the best both success wise and ease of hunting.
