I have been watching the deer on my place all year.  I have numerous pictures of good bucks, and some does.  Right before bow season I would sit in my rifle stand and see what was happening in person. (about 80 yards from the feeder)  I would ussually see the does, but none of the bucks.  Which I know my bucks started to travel later in the evenings then I could see so no big deal.  Well now that bow season is here I have hunted my bow blind (about 30 yards from the feeder) and I have not seen any does, but I do still get pictures of the bucks late in the evenings well past legal hours.  Not to mention well past shooting light.  They are no longer traveling together in the pictures and I will have one buck one night and a different buck the next.  I thought it might be me in that stand making noise or not using enough cover scent, but I don't know for sure.  I hunted last night with the wind to my face the deer travel in front of me and only one window open to my blind.  I know I was quite, and I had scent killer as well as cover scent but still no deer movement.  I had alot of other wildlife move in out from under the feeder not seeing me so I am lost.  Does anyone know if the rut might be moving in a little early?  Maybe the does are traveling?  Anyone hunting this area seen anything similar or different?

No the drought killed the acorns here.  Really we didn't have anything for the deer here except some protien blocks and corn.  Not until recently did we start greening up from the rain.  Which in all honesty I think has something to do with the slow of activity at my stand.  And I did think that maybe the deer were getting smart to my hunting.  I have only been hunting the evenings and never in the mornings, so I will see if I can trick them up.  Or I might just give bow hunting a break and wait till rifle season and start fresh.  Hopefully by then the deer will need come in again.  Otherwise I will be scouting spots for a pop up to try seek and destroy.

I have been seeing the deer on my camera in the mornings.  I also work on back roads and have been seeing alot of deer movement from 8 to 9:30 in the morning so a morning hunt may be your best bet.

Message from: John Call: I am trying to find out if does can be shot during bow season in Bastrop County? Can you please clarify this for me.

The answer is at this link. I read it as "yes" but I am not a Game Warden if you have been told different by local law enforcement.

If you are asking me about shooting does in Bastrop with a bow the answer is yes.  It is written in the outdoor annual from parks and wildlife that does may be taken in any county durring archery season only, except on MLD properties. They must be tagged accordingly of course, but as long as it is bow season you are good to go on does.

Nathan.  I was going to ask you the same.  I saw you got that Buck in rockne?  I Hunt in Cedar Creek.  I have 22 acres that back up to 500 acres of woods and pasture land so I get a little back yard action as well as the occasional big boy.  I actually had a nice ten pointer back there up until last week.  Now I have not seen hide nor hair of him.
