There's a small herd of about 600 elk in PA.  They were originally shot-out after the civil war but were reintroduced by Teddy Roosevelt's administration, with the first Rocky Mountain elk arriving in 1913.  Starting in 2001 an elk hunting lottery alloted 30 or so tags.  I think the first year there were over 50,000 applications.  These came from around Benzette, PA, right in the original elk's range.  Funny how the repopulated elk settled in the same spot.

Here's a black bear from the same area around Benzette...not uncommon at all.

PA is a great place to hunt...unfortunatly it is REALLY pressured and from my experiences in that state some hunters tactics are questionable at best...

Having grown up there I would agree...when the folks from Pittsburgh, Erie, Philadelphia, or the like came into town for rifle season all the home folks who really knew the area and knew how to hunt used to get real nervous.  Sure there were exceptions, but most of the 'city boys' didn't really have the skills they needed to.  The key up there is to either bow hunt or find a pretty secluded place to rifle hunt to get away from the crowds.  That's not easy to do, but it can be done.
