Doug Koenig won the 2009 Masters International Shooting Championship held at PASA Park in Barry, Illinois. This was the 11th victory in a row for Koenig and marks his 16th overall championship. The Masters International Pistol Championship consists of three disciplines of pistol shooting. The Precision Event, Action Event, and Long Range Event call for a wide range of shooting skills. The Precision Event tests off-hand shooting with a .22 rimfire; the Action Event is a speed challenge; and the Long Range Event tests shooting skills from 75 yards to 200 yards. Koenig won every stage of the match, set one record and tied another, and claimed victory by a considerable margin. “I only use the best and that’s why I use Walker’s” The victory at the Masters is Koenig’s second major championship of the season. In June, Koenig was a member of the winning team at the Sportsman’s Team Challenge. Since his start as a professional shooter, Koenig has won a wide range of national and world championship including victories at the National Action Pistol Championship (11 titles); at the IPSC World Championship (1 World Championship title); at the World Speed Shooting Championships (3 titles); at World All-Around Championship (3 titles); and at the World Action Pistol Championship (3 titles). Widely regarded as the greatest all-around rifle, pistol, and shotgun competitive shooter in the world, is in his 21st competitive season after getting into the shooting sports at the age of nineteen. By the age of twenty-two, Koenig had won a IPSC World Championship; had fired the first perfect score at the National Action Pistol Championship, the Bianchi Cup; and had fired the first perfect score at the Masters International Pistol Tournament. During his 21 seasons, Koenig has a record of championships that are unparalleled in the shooting sports. In 2008 Koenig added impressively to his resume in 2008, posting four major championship victories. In May he won his twelfth National Action Pistol Championship, the Bianchi Cup. In June, Doug, for the twelfth time, and teammates Jerry Miculek and Mike Plaxco, fired the top score and captured the Industry Open class for Team Smith & Wesson at the 2008 Sportsman’s Team Challenge Nationals in San Antonio, Texas. In August, he won his fifteenth Masters Championship in a challenging test of every facet of a shooter’s handgun skills. And, finally, in November, he won his third World Action Pistol Championship in Hamilton, New Zealand, held every 2-3 years. Comments: |
