I was shocked that someone would shoot a deer at 10 yards while distracted fighting another buck. This is a great reminder to listen to the full story before making assumptions. Great shooting.
I just got this link forwarded to me for the fifth or sixth time in an e-mail; glad to be a member on the site. Even though I watched it when David posted initially posted it in August, I still have to watch it all over agian. Great post David!
Good shot...The problem is that you interrupted the process of natural selection and saved two animals that could have provided nutrition for your local food bank. Way to play God and make your own personal life saving decision. Are you taking a lot of pride in the fact that you are a good shot? My ten year old daughter could have hit that same shot..what was it, about 6 ft. In watching that video for the second time, it’s very apparent that you didn’t hit the antlers…the noise of the shot scared them and that’s what caused the “breakoff.” You know a lot of folks these days complain about the government controlling too much of our lives…well, “Big Brother” I don’t think you’ve got too much room to talk…maybe next time you’ll take a passive stand and take in all of the natural glory that’s provided to you without screwing it up.
Well David some people just want to be rude I understand making your point but that comment from charles was just rude. Charles if you notice no where does it show that this Randy guy that made the shot posted a comment about his shooting skills. " My ten year old daughter could have hit that same shot..what was it, about 6 ft." Really man.
Have to agree with the majority here. How in the world could these deer have been sent to the local food bank without killing both of them?
New here and got this by email so I'm going to refrain from expressing my 'real' opinion....
Whether or not the bullet broke the horn or they broke it themselves is immaterial. Either way both deer lived (in all probability) to be harvested during the regular season. Had he not separated the deer the chances are extremely high that they both would have died and been eaten by coyotes and buzzards.
I would venture to say that Charles doesn't know the one true God, Jesus Christ, and therefore plays god himself in his own life each and everday instead of surrendering his life to Christ, to escape the flames of torment for eternity and enjoy paradise in Heaven. Which would make him a hypocrite for posting that. We all play god in some form or fashion, especially when we don't submit to God's will in our lives.
Next time when you see your family suffering from disease or pain, don't take them to hospital and let them suffer and see what God wants to do with them. That's the true believer of natural selection.
If God wanted to get those deers to fight to death, he could have simply let him miss his shot. Or, maybe him saving those deers was a way of natural thing supposed to happen that day. I don't know. Who cares?
Please, don't ruin somebody's good day and good will for your own ego-sadistic and judgemental view of world. No matter what somebody may think, good respectul people do whatever they can to help others and improve the situation.
Well, i think it's clear that this charles guy is a bit jealous of the outstanding shot made by this man. Charles, you probably can't shoot worth a crap ya tree hugger! If you are a hunter, i bet the other people on your hunting lease love listening to you all hunting season LOL! You wouldn't last long where I come from.
rutman/charles johnson has confused me. he said that the natural process was interupted and to think of the food that could have been provided for a local food bank? maybe i'm crazy but i figure the natural process would have been to leave them alone and at least one of them would have ended up buzzard bait not on a food bank food line for a bunch o obama supporters. i think he did the right thing and freed the animals so they could live longer and breed and make more deer for the food bank.
Ruttman would probably leave a deer caught in the fence instead of cutting the top wire to free it. Where is he from? The gunman never said a word about his shooting ability. He saved a couple of nice bucks to breed and make more.
Great shot!! Sorry Charles is taking aware your deserved thunder. That's why people like him make those kinds of comments, to turn things their direction. This is still a free country, people can take up their arms and shoot their own food!! You don't need to rely on a food bank to sustain you. Trust in God and use the resources He gave us (including common sense, is that still around?) If you would have killed one or both of the bucks, he would have complained about that. He is just wanting attention. Pray that he never is in the woods with you! Hunting season is upon us, good luck to all!!
Very nice shot using the skills the Lord gave you ....and thank you Charles for responding the the urge the Lord passed on to you to respond to this video...The Lord works in mysterious ways and allows his children to minister to those who need his guidance in a variety of ways. No matter how you feel about this video or all the discussion it has caused us to talk about the Lord and that can never be a bad thing.
Did you ever consider for one second that humans are part of nature and natural selection???? I really am disappointed in fellow hunter that do not consider themselves as part of nature. We are not visitors from another planet.
I agree with ZYANDARR Charles! Next time ilness strikes your family, just let nature take it's course. The future might find you without a family, or the family may find themselves without YOU!
How do you know God didn't place that man there to save those bucks? You have a direct line to him?
And how were these deer gonna find themselves in a food bank? They gonna waller each other right down there and in the door, or are folks just gonna pick up the dead rotted carcasses and haul them to the food bank for consumption?
Let's take it easy on old Charles...sometimes the 'Obama fog' lies a little heavy on one's eyes. And, let's hope the Lord takes the blinders off them too.
your a man of God? all you did was slam this guy for saveing two of Gods creatures, not very christian like in my book....where i come from your just a great big ASS!!!!
Here's the other side of the spectrum. My guess is that they locked-up the day before and this was taken sometime the next day. One of the bucks died and it looks like the other living deer was the one the coyotes went after. Even if the guys that took this video were able to get them apart I don't know whether this buck would have made it.
To let this lind of thing happen to an animal when you had the opportunity to free it would be nothing short of cruel to me.
HOORAH!!! KUDOS to Randy for doing such a great job. I must say I was shocked to see a sportsmen presented with two trophy bucks to pick from and what did he do? Not only did he save BOTH their lives but he let them BOTH go. Didn't chose to take the easy route and just shoot the bigger one for himself; its like that thought didn't even cross his mind. He did the humane and most unselfish thing, puting his OWN interests last.
THIS, is the kinda miraculous thing that hunting and being in nature is all about. If all the tree-huggers and animal activists out there who look down on hunters, could see this video, perhaps they wuld have more respect for us hunters.
By making that good shot to separate those two bucks really put a burr under Charlie Johnson's saddle blanket ( or maybe in his underwear)! I believe Charlie's really just down right envious that he can't shoot that good!..........the opinion of a retired Colorado park ranger
Charles, you're so concerned about Divine intervention. If God had wanted those deer to die, he would not have put Randy at that place and time to intervene. It was obviously the way God intended. And once again, you've shown your purpose on this earth. To make others look good.
Randy, Good call and excellent shooting. Maybe you and Charles' 6 year old daughter can target shoot together sometime and she can give you some pointers. <grinz>
I suppose if Charles were in an accident in the middle of nowhere, trapped under a vehicle or in rising water, etc., he may change his outlook if a passing motorist offered to help him. Better yet, what if it were is 10yr old daughter that needed assistance. GOD allowes things to happen, but HE places people in certain situations for a reason. This wasn't an ethical opportunity to harvest an animal. Great job Randy for illustrating the actions of a true sportsman!
When I first saw the start of the video it was obvious they were locked. And the way the gentleman approached them, you knew he wasn't going to "harvest" either buck. Fantastic marksmanship and as to Charlie (and his bashing of Randy)- remember this - The Lord works in mysterious ways - don't forget that when you just might need "divine intervention". Nuff Sed.
This is the first time on this site, and i am not a hunter, but i enjoyd this vidio, also i am a beliver in god and his law s,he has given us domane over all amimals,so we have a right to shot them or save them ,as long as we obay the law of the land, whitch is also a law of god ,he says obay the law of the land.(in season and out of season)The shooter was put there for a reason ,all our lives are based on the decisions we make, bad ones or good ones,This was definently a good decision on the shooters part, it will perduce more deer for( food,)(enjoyment for the hunters ),(trophys )or what ever the hunters decide to do with them, the shooter was not playing god ,he just made a good desion for all man kind encluding charles who might need that food on his table.
PS. Im not trying to preach,just puting my oppion and what i belive on the table (damn good shot shooter}
I live up in Maine and I have never encountered two bucks locked in battle and I have hunted since I was 10 years old, I am now 58 Yrs old, But I Have To Say That What This Hunter Showed Was True Sportsmanship. Apparently God put that Hunter there to save those deer, there is always a reason for the season. I agree with the Majority of The People Here and There always have to be some Butt Head to shoot their mouth off. Coyotes would off ended up eating those deer alive, to suffer such a death like that is just not right. As some of the others here wrote on natural selection in favor of the hunter I do have to agree, haaaaa, and by the way Great Shot and that was an Honorable Thing to Do, Hooorah, later Frenchie
This was a great act by a good sportsman. He could have killed the larger deer and hung it on the wall but instead chose to give them a chance to live to be shared with others! Sometimes God's plan includes giving us the tools and opportunities to save one of his creatures and it would be a travesty to not take advantage of this gift! Charles - you have it wrong & the tone of your message says you have many lessons to learn yet from God's teachings!
Holy crap Charles...Really...If we were purely practicing natural selection both animals would be in Randy's freezer...and the buzzards would be under a bridge somewhere eating out of a refrigerator box...comprende dumbass?
Hey Charles you are truely one dumb ass This guy let two bucks live and go back to nature so they could continue to breed and support more good hunting. Not to mention the suffering and painfull death from starvation or predator attack. You got to have voted for OBAMA cause no true hunter would have even come close to that moronic comment
The thing that Charles is forgetting is that we are all part of the equation. Anything we do affects the natural course of nature. We are all a part of nature, good or bad. What the shooter did was neither good nor bad, just an impulse that he acted upon, creating a new course for two deer and himself and countless onlookers. Believe me, Mother Nature (God) knows what she's (He's) doing. Peace, out, Friends!
I think everyone should stop judging anyone else as to their spiritual beliefs, morals, or even political affiliation based on one statement they happen to disagree with. I am a Christian and I believe for the most part religion gives God a bad name. Your judgment of Charles because he doesn't fit your idea of what a Christian should be boils down to religion. If your gonna throw God's thoughts into this conversation I suggest you have some scripture to back it up!
Hey Charlie, you are obviously a little full of yourself, i dont think you have a daughter, cause no woman would accossiate herself with your self rightous tree hugger attitude. leave this fantastic sportsman with the glory he deserves...he preserved two magnificant animals. in closing i thing you are a little chucked up :)
Most of you seem confused about god and nature, 'god would have wanted.... and damn good shot'; Ironic? Seems also that none of you can write a complete sentence, or, for that mattter even spell correctly. None of you even hinted that MAYBE 'Charles' was baiting you; most of the comments, including this one are about his remarks. Remarkable. Most of you are also confused about what to do in this situation; leave it to nature; leave it to god; congratulations; atta boy etc., which indicates that you have very little field experience. And then the remarks abourt 'afblack' Obama and his welfare (food banks etc.) indicate that you have no comprehension about what is happening in the 'halls' of government. The man in the field that shot the antlers (not horns) apart did the right thing, as anyone should be able to ascertain. Further, as far as god goes; pray for sustanence in one hand and scoop manure with the other and see which fills up first. Grow Up.
While I appreciate your comments about the hunter, and perhaps even some of your political observations, there are a lot of us that would take issue with your comments about God because many of us fear God. It appears that you don't. That's your choice.
But, let's look at it this way...if all of us God-fearing individuals are wrong then at worst we've supposedly wasted our lives (which sir, we have not). But if, on the other hand, you are wrong and indeed "the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord", then we're talking about eternal life versus eternal death. That is, an eternal 'death' in hell without Christ as the result of sin versus an eternal life in heaven in the presence of Christ because of forgiveness of sin. Pretty significant consequences I'd say.
This reminds me of a set of locked horns that hung in my father's taxidermy shop for as long as I can remember. One buck was already dead when it they were found and the other nearly so. Here are some thoughts on it:
Locked Horns
George Bowers 11/08
Two bucks locked horns on the battlefield, the other to defeat,
Neither of them knew that day, that they would n’er retreat
For when their horns connected, they could not pull apart,
Thus was the quick result of something not too smart.
They pulled and pulled and pulled some more, but their struggles were in vain,
Their foolish selfish pride was now their cause of pain.
As time went by they couldn’t drink, they couldn’t eat or run,
Their passion for destruction had turned into no fun.
They both began to suffer, to starve and thirst to death,
What started in domination, would take their last life’s breath.
Let’s learn a lesson from these bucks, let’s do some give and take,
And really try to get along and try some peace to make.
Let’s heed the Master’s words and hear Him as He warns,
For if we press our issues hard, we may just lock our horns!
If one knew how many deer and elk locked antlers (not horns!) each year and perished, it would be astounishing. I guess one could say that is "mother nature's way" to help thin out the herds so others can survive. I agree with all those who say Charles is full of himself, and neither of those bucks would make it to the "food bank", but to help feed coyotes, buzzards, crows, wolves, bears, and many other predators. Thus, helping out the food chain. But, at the same time it warms my heart to see a "hunter" save two bucks. Both bucks appeared to be rather young and to move on to breed and produce more healthly deer. And, no, Charles, your 10 year old daughter, nor you, could have made that shot! To the person who claims most can't spell? Well, that person can't either! But, I am sure those mispelled words from that person were typo's! lol By the way, I am a former "hunter" turned photographer. No license or tag required, no seasons to wait for, no packing out game animals from deep canyons, and much more rewarding and takes just as much, or more, skill to get a good nature photo as it does to harvest game with a high powered rifle and scope. Check out my wildlife photos: www.postphoto.smugmug.com and scroll down to the "Wildlife" category. Steven Post
PS: I am not against harvesting animals, I just choose not to do it anymore. Some of my best friends are hunters! I still love to fish for Steelhead Trout, though! Steven Post, Sisters, Oregon
I have to laugh when people get all fired up over things like this scmuck saying he was "playing God". If you were a TRUE believer you would view it that just maybe God put him in this place and time to do just what he did. God blessed him with the talent to shoot the right spot at the right time. God~just maybe~wanted him to do this!! And to the one who said his daughter could do this, I say nice work armchair quaterback! The deer were wrestling and all over the place so go ahead and try! Oh, yeah, you weren't there!!! Why can't people just see the good side of things instead of being miserable critics~life is good if you just let it be!
What a great encounter for that hunter. That is a once in a lifetime experience! In my opinion, that would be more exciting than harvesting either of those deer anyway.
Any negativity expressed over this video is comical. Some people just need to get a life I guess. God this... and God that... God just wants to see us love our brothers and sisters. Let us enjoy the video friends.
Mr Sandstede you can neither spell nor complete a sentence y'rself...the pot calling the kettle black... and how exactly was Charles "baiting us"? Terrific shot ! made by a {obviously} concerned "morally conscious" and experienced hunter.. which incidently is something you can't fake. I salute you! These deer would have suffered a slow, writhing, torturous and painful drawn out death.
YEAH! LET THEM SUFFER!! HOW DARE HE SAVE THOSE DEER. no body is that heartless. That gutless, yes but i would find it hard to believe that someone could see that going on and NOT want/try to help. whether they are willing to is a different story.
wow after reading charles' post again, i truly cannot believe that even he is that dense to believe some of that bile coming out of his mouth. playing God? Big brother? 10 yrd old? the fact that the animals had probably been fighting for days but all of a sudden when a gun goes off, they are more scared than before? pfft. well done charles.
