LIGHTNING

I saw this bird and was surprised it wouldn’t fly away. Then I noticed it was protecting eggs that were laid on the rocks. There WAS NOT a nest, the eggs blended in with the rocks and the bird was willing to die rather than leave the eggs. Pretty amazing example of nature.

Pretty cool.  Iv'e seen birds, not sure if the same kind, that laid their eggs in the gravel and dirt like that and they would run around dragging one wing on the ground acting injured to lure you away from their nest.

Its a Killdeer...they also are the bird that will try to lure you away from their nest with the 'broken wing' trick.

I love that broken wing trick. My kids and grandkids trip-out every time they see it.

I never seen one that wouldn't leave the nest.  The closer the eggs are to hatching the tighter they stick to the nest.
