POSITION SUMMARY
The TWA Director of Development serves primarily as the development coordinator of the Texas Wildlife Association Foundation (TWAF) and is responsible for design and implementation of development plans, for providing the TWAF Board of Trustees with information and support to facilitate its development efforts, and for coordinating development activities. In addition, the Director of Development may also be asked to assist the Association with other projects, as appropriate.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Direct and participate in the Foundation's fundraising efforts, and identify and explore new opportunities for resource development.
2) Focus the Foundation’s development plans and activities on priority programs and projects as determined by the Board of Trustees and supported programs and projects.
3) Coordinate with specific Foundation-funded educational programs, including the Texas Big Game Awards; Texas Youth Hunting Program; Conservation Legacy Program (Wildlife Management Education, Youth Conservation Education, and Conservation Initiatives); Wildlife Research Grants and Scholarship Programs; and projects of groups with philosophical compatibility.
4) Build and maintain appropriate relationships with individuals, corporations, foundations and other organizations that are current or potential donors.
5) Develop the Foundation’s proposals to foundations, corporations and individuals, in coordination and consultation with Trustees and supported program, as appropriate.
6) Direct development programs of the Foundation, including promotions, collateral materials, special appeals, prospect research, grant writing, and other fundraising activities.
7) Manage the maintenance of fundraising records including prospect assignments, cultivation and solicitation status, gift and recognition records, and assure that the Foundation’s database and donor management information is appropriate and updated.
8) Manage gift acknowledgement and donor recognition.
9) Plan and manage all appropriate events and activities (donor recognition, cultivation, stewardship, etc.) for the Foundation.
10) Schedule and attend appropriate TWAF or other supported program meetings (e.g. TWA) and one-on-one meetings with volunteers, Trustees, and prospects, as required. Manage and coordinate follow-up to all solicitation calls.
11) Provide regular progress reports to the CEO and to the Board of Trustees on results to-date, recent activities, priority calls, and next action.
12) Stay current with the program needs and plans of as they develop, and identify the Foundation's opportunities to support them.
13) Write articles or submit information for "Texas Wildlife" magazine, website, and for other organizational publications regarding development, as directed or needed.
14) As directed by TWAF Trustees, lead a major endowment campaign to provide long term funding for TWAF-funded educational programs.
15) Lead and coordinate Annual Reports and special Convention activities as related to TWAF, the Texas Outdoorsman of the Year event (TOOTY), other TWAF fundraising events and assist with other TWA special events, as appropriate.
16) Other duties on behalf of TWAF (or TWA) as directed by the Chief Executive Officer.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Full time
Variable working hours, including some evenings and weekends
Statewide travel, as necessary
Location: TWA’s San Antonio headquarters

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education
Graduation from an accredited college or university with at least a Bachelor’s degree
Continuing education in Foundation/Fundraising activities
Experience preferred
Minimum four years of experience in development/fundraising and/or conservation/natural resource administration or management
Minimum four years experience in volunteer management, computers, and software (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
License
Must possess or be able to obtain a Texas class "C" vehicle operator’s license
SELECTION CRITERIA
Proven skills in fundraising, grant writing, corporate sponsorship solicitation, donor management and servicing, endowment/capital campaigns, special event coordination, annual/planned giving, and development of business partnerships
Ability to provide group leadership and work cooperatively with TWA staff, TWA members, volunteer leadership and volunteer workers, donors and sponsors, and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and other government employees and leaders
Knowledge and appreciation of hunting, conservation, leasing, land management, natural resource management, farming and ranching issues
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and in person. Ability to deliver professional presentations to corporations, landowners, donors, educators, youth, and to the public
Skill in business and/or office management, quarterly reporting and general fiscal planning
Strong organizational, writing and computer skills
Skill, initiative and motivation to work with Texas landowners, hunters, conservationists and businesses and foundations in unsupervised situations
Skills in volunteer and Board management and coordination
Ability to meet deadlines and coordinate strong, visible programs
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Resume and letters of recommendation (3) must be submitted and will be verified by TWA
Some skills evaluations and personality profiles may be administered.
Must have professional, cooperative, and teamwork attitude in office and in public
Must be trustworthy and honest as this position frequently handles checks, cash, credit card numbers, and valuable donated items, and achieve bonded status
