Charles, even though my place is a bit larger (15 acre) I know where you are coming from. I feed year round and it keeps the deer coming in regularly. What you need to keep in mind, though, is that you need to know how high to build your stand. On such a small piece of land you need to make sure you are up high enough that when you shoot a deer, that your bullet does not cross the fence line. It is illegal for your shot to cross property boundaries. Some here will tell you that it is illegal to hunt on a tract less than 10 acres. I have yet to see that in writing anywhere, and have even seen two Game wardens argue over it.

My suggestion for such a small place, is to find somewhere in the middle (if possible) to set up your feeder and blind. Some people get a little cranky about feeders and stands on the fenceline. Then I would go buy me a good bow and take up bow hunting.

Last but not least. We prefer the term "seasoned hunters".

Guns don't kill people....Its those pesky little bullets making lots of holes that all the blood leaks out of.

Dana, I see you're in Brown County. We're currently in Brown County but losing our lease due to the landowner selling and the new owner will be hunting the land himself. Know of anyone that has leases? If so put me in touch. We really want to find something in the same area for many reasons but the biggest two are that its a great area and we don't want to have to move our stuff TOO far. We have 6 hunters. Im would not know what to do with myself during Sept-Dec without a deer lease.

To answer your question about leases, rookiehunter, the cost varies. Depends on the area you are looking to lease in.  You'd be lucky to find a good lease for under $1200/gun and most are over $1500.

Charles,

Just by looking at your map, and with no other info, I'd put my feeder and blind in the top, left hand portion, of the white box you drew.  Put the feeder within your property, not on the fence line but close enough to draw them out of that cover.   Set your blind back from that.

Yes to feeding year round.  However, in the off time I only feed enough to keep them coming to the feeder, you don't have to pour the feed to them.  About 1-Septmer, I turn it up a little and about 1-15 October I open it up.

Spend a lot of time in the woods.  NOTHING else is a substitute and there are no hunting shows on TV that will make up for lack of time spent scouting.  Shoot a lot too.  Get very accurate, don't wait till Oct to take out your rifle.  Shoot it and get good with it.

Most stuff you see at the store is gimicky and you dont need it.  Buying your gear at a Wal-Mart is an offense to God himself.  Aviod it.

Watch the animals, they will let you know what other animals are doing.

I thought the 10 acre rule applied for subdivisions. Could be wrong.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm a peace officer.  There's nothing in state law that prohibits hunting on sized parcel of land.  However, state law prohibits one from shooting across a property line, public road, river, etc.  This means that when you pull the trigger you better be certain that your bullet or shot will not leave your property unless you have permission from adjacent landowners.

With that said there could be county ordinances or deed restrictions on the land.  A violation of a county ordinance could earn you a ticket or a trip to jail.  Subdivision rules and deed restrictions are civil in nature so a violation of these could land you in the middle of a messy law suit.

If there are no county ordinances or deed restrictions or subdivision rules precluding you from shooting/hunting then by all means hunt and shoot away.  Just be sure that you are not shooting across your property line.

Keep in mind that several other state and local offenses could come into play.  Such as noise violations, trespassing to recover your game, or if you have a stray bullet and it strikes a house, car, or anything else.  If the house were occupied you could be charged with reckless endangerment.  If someone is injured or killed things could go really bad for you.

In my county we recently had such a case where a man was shooting a .22 on his five acres.  A stray bullet struck and killed a kid who was bouncing on a trampoline two properties away.  That man is now facing a long time in prison for manslaughter/criminally negligent homicide.

So, just be careful and use common sense.  Be sure of what is beyond your target.  With high powered rifles that bullet can pass through a deer and continue a long way.  On more than one occasion I've shot 2 deer or hogs with one shot.

Most of these previous posts are right. Particularly the one from the peace officer. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO BE ABSOLUTELY SURE WHERE YOUR BULLET WILL HIT IF YOU MISS OR IT GOES THROUGH THE DEER. MAKE SURE IT IS ON YOUR PROPERTY. DON'T SHOOT AGAINST SOMETHING THAT MIGHT CAUSE A RICOCHET. ALTHOUGH HIGH SPEED BULLETS USUALLY BREAK UP - - THEY DON'T ALWAYS.

Can' tell for sure since your map did not go that far, but it looks as though there might be a homesite to the lower right. If so, don't shoot in that direction, even though you think you have a "safe" shot.
