QUESTION

What do ya'll make of this?  Sort of like a minnow trap?  Guess you could use it to bring in animals but they couldn't get out.

Know anyone that uses something like this?  Was sent to me in an email from Lamar Smith.

QUESTION

Looks like something that would be set up to entice deer from one person's property onto another, but not let them back onto the original property.  If the same landowner owns both pieces of property, then pretty ingenious.  If not, then maybe it borders on unethical.  Unless there is something about it I'm not getting???

HAPPY

Howdy! It looks like a one way entrance gate.  Could be used for getting wild hogs as well.  I would sure check rules on this one.  However, it looks like a neat one-way entrance.  It might be where it could be opened up all the way to allow both entry and exit at times as well.

Fellers that gate is baited.  Notice the yellow trail leading away from the far side of the one way gate to the trough on the other side?  That's corn!!!

Mike Legget wrote an article in the Austin Statesman about these gates a while back.  Apparently they are poping up in south Texas quit a bit.  Some people use them to get deer from neighboring properties, but most put them on sections of fence that border the highway so that deer trapped on the roads inbetween high fences can get into their land.

They are definatly flirting with some serious game laws.  It is illegal to trap whitetail and this is definately skirting the law.  You can put up a game fence but making it a trap is another matter.

I can see where it could be used to introduce new blood on a place that has been high fenced for a long time but it could mess up your management program as well.  You could trap big bucks and healthy does or you could get trash.  Then your program is out of whack and your deer census is off as well as not knowing what age class the new deer are in.

Not to mention that your neighbors probably wouldnt appreciate it much.

If I owned THIS side of that one way gate there would be a fence put about 6 inches from the other one -JUST inside my property line. Or a call to the game warden- unethical.
