Thanks for all of the kind replies. I met with Texas State Rep. District 9 Wayne Christian, who as a child fox hunted with my uncle, about sponsoring the bill to make it illegal to have animals for fighting purposes, to train animals to fight and have equipment to train animals to fight. This is necessary so that when these fighting operations are busted they can go to their homes and seize everything. The way the law stands now they can only seize what is at the fight location. A defence against procecution is animals involved in a lawful hunting activity. Please contact your local repersentative and ask him to support this bill when it is proposed.

I feel for you, and know sometimes you got to do what you got to do, but I hate to see you resort to partnering with the HSUS.  You know those nut jobs over there would steal your dog too if they knew you used him for hunting.  There have been several cases of HSUS and PETA members doing this, and then they eventually have to put the animals to death because they don't have room for them.  They have the nerve to call this an "animal rescue."  They justify this because in their messed up little minds, killing one animal that is used to kill many animals is OK.  However, I realize you don't have many options and your motives are pure.  Good Luck.

Thanks and your right I don't have many options. I've been running in the red for the past 2 years as I built a hunting operation that people would enjoy coming to. This dog was the conerstone of my whole operation. While I have other dogs I have none like him. A six and a half year old dog that has preserve hunted all of his life and loves to perform in front of hunters is an invaluable asset. This would be our year to run in the black and start letting his son come into his own. Toby will be two in Nov. and while he will one day be all that his father was, I feel like I'm starting over again. I feel like you do about the HSUS but with a $5,000 reward I can do a lot to rid Texas of these criminals. Just look at the headlines around Texas on cockfighting and dog fighting bust being made. I have made a target of myself and have no doubt that they are coming after me but I know that in a small way I have made a difference.

we are so sorry to hear what happened to your hunting buddy. where did this happen at exactly? i can only imagine how terrible it was to see them taking your dog. i hope that you can make a difference in the way these people are treating their own dogs. it truly saddens me that they would put their own pets through that, much less your best friend.

It was in Shelby County off FM 2468. There is a dog theft epedemic going on here. Just go to www.shelbycountytoday.com and go to the classifieds and see how many people have lost pets. Their main target is pit bulls. They use them as breeders or fighters. The other animals they use as bait dogs, so their fighters can get a taste of blood. This is an organized criminal ring ran by the mexican mafia. Hwy 59 is their lifeblood. They run drugs, weapons, illegals and eventually terrorist up this corridor. As Center is just a few miles off 59 it is perfect for their dogfighting and cockfighting operations.
