I got this as an email today.

This is right off County Hwy O in Portage County, just north of Junction City (Northwest of Stevens Point).  This is a piebald fawn.  It was my good fortune that it was young and stupid since I was able to get within 10 yards of it.  It ran a few yards (Photo 6), I walked up again and took one last broadside photo before it ran into the woods.

I bet that thing won't last long in the wild. It's like having a target on his back.

Yeah, it's a shame, but that is probably the truth.

Personally, I wouldn't shoot it.  Let others have a chance to see it, share the joy.

Natural selection though will take care of it. Coyotes can easily see it, dogs, bobcats, mountain lions, and unfortunately, people. It can't hide like it's brothers and sisters can...

That's probably why you don't see more of them. We only have timber wolves and coyotes up here. I saw a couple of wolves about ten years ago and one coyote about five years ago. Oh, and a black bear a few weeks ago. After this weekend they will blend in a lttle better.

I hope he can make it. Beautiful deer, I would not shoot it either. An animal like that should be allowed to live for other people to see. Unfortunantly someone would take him as a novelity or try to sell him.
