I been there many times. Seen mule deer, lots of turkey, and javelina. With the Rio Grande flowing right by there, there is quite a bit of wildlife. The river flows pretty muddy, but I've also caught some good channel cats there.

Yes, I've seen whitetail in the area. It's not really thier country, but with the river being there, so are they. Are you going to be hunting close to the river?

I've camped right in Langtry, down by the river and had a dozen turkey come through my camp. I think you'll have good luck.

I used to hunt Pumpville, TX years ago which is 15 Miles West of Langtry. There were a lot of Deer out there. Some of the most fun that I have ever had hunting. My dad also had a lease in Langtry,, I think he shot a couple of Deer of of that place as well.

My father grew up in Langtry. His parents owned the Exxon there in town now known as the "Langtry Depot". In regards to the question, whitetail hunting in Val Verde County is wonderful. I noticed that one of the reply's stated that it isnt whitetail country. That is false. There are more whitetail than you can throw a stick at! My grandmother lives on Lake Amistad now, after selling the Exxon and on any given day she will have 10-20 whitetail at her feeder in the early morning and evening hours.

Depending on which direction you go the country is eather brushy or open. Lots of deer though/some nice ones also. Back when I was young (and dumb), we would CARRY our gear down the canyon to the river---boat, motor and all. we would go up the lake to the river and spend 4-5 days fishin. Great catfishin and in february during the white bass run, you could catch them by the thousands. The Rio Grande is muddy for most of the year, but in february it can be clear as a bell. I have seen whites in schools that were as thick as minnows in a fish tank. OH---WE had to carry our gear back up the canyon when we left. I am FAR to old for that now.Lots of luck to you .

I hunted out near Pandale about 10 yrs ago, and i was extremely disappointed, i saw 3 deer in 28 days! But I think it was the ranch being overgrazed by cattle. We heard shots all around our 1000 acres. I think you will be just fine down there, although it was one heck of a drive from FTWorth.

I hunt about 8 miles Northwest of Pandale on the Pecos river and there is a lot of Whitetails. I have sat in a blind and in one evening counted 26 deer coming out to the feeder at the same time, but normally about 10 to 14. So to answer your question there are plenty of whitetail in the area.
