I can't hardly wait to go deer hunting.

I have been trying different loads from 180 gr JSP , 240 gr JSP and 250 gr Platinum Tip HP.

I have a Ruger Redhawk SS .44 mag with 5 1/2" barrel with iron sights and don't want to change the gun.  I'm shooting real good with the 180 gr JSP and I enjoy shooting them.  So that is going to be my load for whitetail and I will not be shooting over 50 yards.

Is any one else going whitetail hunting with a revolver or handgun?

I will be using the same gun as you (.44 super redhawk), crossbow, and .12 slug for deer this season unless I am culling for a landowner, in which case I will be using my .308

Just out of curiosity, what load are y'all going to be using?

I'm going to use the Rem 180 gr JSP. for my .44 mag

My hunting load for all of my 44's is pretty standard I think.

240 grain XTP

24.5 grain W 296

with a good crimp

The 240 gr has always shot better for me.

If I have success on my first trip with a rifle, then I might try hunting with a revolver.  I have a .357mag that would work, I think, for closer shots . . .

You're right, the 357 will work for deer.  However, practice with it so you can reliably hit a 6" circle at 50 yrds, use a good bullet that you know will perform, and keep your shots within the 50 yrd range.  That said, any whitetail in Texas will drop for you.
