Overview:

Valle Venado Land & Cattle is a family operated business providing outstanding hunting opportunities for whitetail deer, Rio Grande Turkey, and Bobwhite quail in the Texas Panhandle. After many years of leasing our land to other sportsman, the decision was made this year to bring the hunting operation back “in house” and to build a premier operation which would provides the best hunting opportunities for the sportsman based upon their time constraints. In our first year of operation we have not concentrated on the “sell a hunt” but rather our concentration has been on establishing the needed infrastructure to provide an outstanding hunting opportunity. Our believe is that by providing this opportunity in a manner which we would expect as a paying customer, our hunts will sell themselves. As a side note, all pictures posted on this site have personally been taken by us (or our customers). We will not misrepresent our offering by posting pictures that are not representative of the ranch.

The ranch land located just south of Shamrock Texas in the north east Texas Panhandle is highly suited habitat for not only whitetail deer but also Rio Grande turkey and bobwhite quail. Mule deer have also been observed on the eastern half of the ranch. The ranch ranges from open grassy pastures to heavily covered shinnery and oak with multiple shelter belts. Several mesas are located on and adjacent to the property providing rough terrain around wet weather drainage areas. This topography along with the outstanding cover and forage has resulted in a haven for wildlife.

Valle Venado offers an exceptional opportunity for trophy class whitetail deer. With patience, it is highly probable that a 10pt buck will be seen, with a distinct possibility of harvesting that 12pt trophy whitetail deer. An abundance of Rio Grande turkey provides an excellent chance to use those “calling” skills and bring in that elusive longbeard during our spring hunts. Hunting opportunities at the ranch are broken into two operations with whitetail deer during the fall season and Rio Grande turkey during the spring season. There is limited quail hunting between these two primary seasons.

Additional Information

Overview:

The Collinsworth County area has always been know for its outstanding quail hunting. The ranch is no exception and historically has been host to a large population of bobwhite quail. With the ranch ranging from open grass, heavy shinnery, sage and stands of oak, the birds are provided with ample natural cover. In addition feed is provided through the use of quail feeders during the difficult months in order to insure a viable breeding stock for the spring. Hunting is not done over any feeder as they are provided only to assist the birds on the ranch when times get tough.

As with the area in general, previous drought years severely impacted the quail population. The spring of 2007 however was ideal with abundant moisture, grass, and food stocks which has lead to a resurgence of the population. Census work done during the late fall of 2007 and early winter months of 2008 has shown our population of between 3 and 4 coveys per quarter section. All the coveys encountered contained 20 or more birds.

Several packages are offered for quail hunts and are available only during the months of January and February. Please call to reserve you spot for 2009.
