Overview:

Texas Wild specializes in South Zone Dove hunting during the Fall, and in Hog Hunting during the Spring and Summer. Texas Wild offers season leases for deer, dove, ducks, turkey and quail as well as day and package hunts on a variety of game in several South Texas counties.

Texas Wild is owned and operated by David A. Smith. David has been a hunter for 40 years, a rancher for 35 years, and an outfitter for 25 years. He understands and can relate to all parties involved in the hunting and ranching industry. David owns ranch property as well as leases property which is sublet for hunting. David is a partner in two cattle operations, Rafter S Ranches with his son Brandon, and Smith Bros. Ranches with his brother Mike. David is keenly aware of two truths: That his relationship with the landowner is of the utmost importance, and that the future of the hunting industry is in the hands of our youth.

Overview:

Texas Wild Hog Hunts

Our specialty in February, March, April, May, and June is Hog Hunting. Wild Boars, Feral Hogs, Texas Boars , Texas Wild Boars...these are all names used to describe the hogs that we hunt here in Texas. Texas has the largest Feral Hog population of any state in the nation and South Texas has the largest density per acre. In Texas, the Feral Hog is not protected and can be hunted day or night, by any means. David and his guides have been hog hunting for years in the South Texas Brush. Whether you are on a semi-guided or fully guided hunt, David and his guides will be glad to give you some pointers.

"When I want to hunt, I go Hog Hunting." -- David Smith

Western Safari

This is an action packed hunt that is for the "Western at Heart". Hunting is done at night on oat, peanut, and Milo fields. "It's like riding a bucking bronco and shooting at the bad guys." February, March, April, and May hunts are available.

New for 2006: Texas Wild has invested in a generation III night vision monocular which is giving this hunt GREAT success rates.

This fully guided 4-hour hunt is done at night with the hunters riding in the back of a pickup truck in seats. Texas Wild furnishes the pickup with driver, gate opener, spot light, and the fields to hunt. It is recommended that each hunter wear warm clothes, bring a 12 gauge shotgun with the plug taken out, at least 30 rounds of "00" buckshot, rain gear, flashlight, hunting knife and food & drink of choice.

Hogs with Dogs

This is one of those types of hunts that you and your friends will be talking about until...well, the next time you go on one! We have access to approximately 50,000 acres in the counties of Atascosa, Frio, and McMullen. Seasoned hunters and novices alike will find themselves on an adrenaline high when they harvest a Trophy Texas Wild Boar on this type of hunt.

This is a fully guided 4-5 hour hunt done at night in the South Texas Brush. Texas Wild will furnish a pickup truck with dog box, trained hog dogs, two-way radios, dog handlers, snake-guard leggings for each hunter, and a hog stricker if you do not have one. We recommend that each hunter bring a good flash light, a sharp hunting knife, and a side arm for personal protection. Hunt times vary with time of year and weather conditions.

The Deluxe Hog Hunt

The Deluxe Hog Hunt is a fully guided hunting experience. It includes hunting, meals, upscale lodging, game cleaning, and transportation while hunting, and guide service. New for 2006: Is also includes the use of our night vision equipment. This has given this hunt GREAT success for the trophy type of animals.

Your guide will work with you to get you the most opportunity to see and harvest hogs. He will have an inventory of locations at his disposal, use all available methods from stand hunting, Western Safari, to Hogs with Dogs. Your expert guide will know how to read hog signs, and interpret the weather and the moon on hog movement.  Your guide and ranch employees will clean and handle your game for you.

Additional Information

Overview:

Texas Wild offers duck hunts by appointment any day of the week during the season on several locations with ponds and/or lakes. Most hunts are for small groups.

Geese

Texas Wild offers goose hunts by appointment any day of the week during the season. The geese we have are Snows, Specks, Blues, and Ross. All our hunting is in dry fields, no wading in sloppy rice fields packed down with decoys. Most days hunters drive right out to the exact spot where they will be hunting, using the headlights to put out the decoys and then park a safe distance away so as not to spook the geese. All hunts are morning hunts only ending around 10:00 a.m. We allow the geese to rest and feed in the afternoon to reduce the hunting pressure. There are times that sand hill cranes are at these locations, so get a permit if you want to harvest them as well.

Duck and Goose Combo

On the locations where we hunt geese, we can also set out our decoys to hunt ducks on a nearby pond.

Methods Allowed: Shotgun, Archery
