Unfortunately, I have been seeing more stories just like this one where hunters are becoming victims of thieves, don't know if the bad economy ahs anything to do with that!!!
this same place happened to our place in Midland County. Someone came in and stole cameras/took them and threw them in the field. They also clipped the wires in our feeders (real close to the top so it was a bitch to splice) and stole the batteries. Everything stopped when we caught 4 high school kids on the land. Some smart asses, shot a couple rounds of 9mm in front of them to snap em out of their smart-assness and took their ids. like i said, no more problems.
Sorry that happened to you. The thives were bad this past season, they cut the chain on our gate and stole our camper trailer-----$23,000.00!!!!!! Had to buy another one, besides the loss and buying another one after insurance paid total loss to me in the range of $27-28000.00. Really hope I never find them----don't want to go to jail!!!!!!!!!!!
Its sad that there is Sorry SOB out there that will do that to us hunters who look forward all year to the season to start and we find shit like this happen to us... Happy Hunting Fellas
Hope you get your local law enforcement involved. You don't want that trouble on yourself. That is why they were hired.Good luck, shame it has to be that way.
Thank you for sharing your lost. We had the same occur we lost corn, motors, and feeders. We thought at one one time it was the wildlife doing it. But I think guys just came in and drove around destroying our stuff.
That is a shame.
Nothing much lower than thieves!!!
I have the same problem at my place in Houston County. I finally caught who was doing and I pressed charges on them. The three teenagers who was trespassing on my property bought me all new feeders. I would tell local law inforcement!!!!!!!
Well, if anything ever happens again on my place I've still got the kids' drivers liscenses. Kind of our fault, took us a while to get gates up after purchasing the property. Also, I'd rather deal with it myself if it's just some stupid kids. No reason to press charges and possibly ruin their future. I'd rather them learn from their mistakes than suffer from them. On the other hand, the to the original poster, call the cops. It's different when it's "adults" like fellow hunters.
Someone get a rope! idiots like these make a bad name for outdoorsmen.
I got to my stand this season only to find it missing, all my tree steps unscrewed and my camera gone. I decided to hunt another stand and saw three huge bucks. I shot one of those bucks two days later, only to not find it. I search the next week hard and never found the deer. I went back the next weekend and upon leaving for the morning I noticed the remains of two large bodied bucks that had been poached with their remains scattered at several entrances to our place so that we would be certain to find them. LET ME CATCH THE BASTARDS!
That is annoying, not to mention very disrespectful...I would try to set up some game cameras in the only entrances and exits to monitor who is coming and going. Of course put it where it won't be easy to spot. Then you have your eveidence or should.
Stories like these are increasing all over the state. We've had problems with places before with theft and poaching, but nothing like some of you guys have had to go through. In 2008 we found one of the biggest bucks on the ranch along the highway with his head cut off. We knew he'd been crossing there to go to food..his body size was unmistakable. Whoever killed him just left the carcass to rot.
Although its hit-and-miss sometimes, I'd still call the local sheriff and/or game warden (GW if its related to poaching).
