WEBB COUNTY BUCK
Category: Native Animal

This picture was taken at my friend's, Fred Leyendecker, place, JCIL RANCH,  in Webb, County. This is a small two year-and-a-half with excellent genetics.  Fred was the one who turned me on to the economics and benefits of cottonseed feed. He has some monsters in his place.

I'm thinking about trying some cottonseed at my lease in cotulla, texas. Where could i find some and about how much does it cost ?

Look up Gins in La Salle county and give them a call. Ask them if they remove the lint too. I bought some in Damon, TX and they didn't remove the lint. The deer never touched it. I buy it now from Raymondville @ 325/ton. I am running 2 tons per year and if you do the math, it is cheaper than corn and way cheaper than commercial protein, which by the way is cottonseed extract with fillers. In Raymondville will sell you some filler to cut the amount of cottonseed you use, but I don't go that route. All the filler is cracked cottonseed hulls. I would rather give them the complete cottonseed kernel. And another plus I have found out is that hogs won't come in to get it. I guess they probably will eventually, but so far this year, they haven't even bothered to come into the pens. So deer and a few coons get it entirely. I don't have the phone number to the gin in Raymondville handy, but I will post it in one of my future entries. Hope this helps.
