Got this via email the other day...don't know where it was caught (the guys were NOT speaking English), but any way you look at it that's one whale of a catfish.

Hello from a Texan in Germany.  The catfish is called a Wels.  They inhabit the waters of central, southern, and eastern Europe, and near the Baltic and  Caspian Seas.  Had a buddy catch one, 30-40 lbs, in the Rhein river.  He caught it on a Rapala Husky Jerk with 8 lb test.  Google Wels catfish for some cool pictures.  Later

Thanks Kerry for the info - had never heard of a wels catfish before.

2.46m is slightly over 8' long.  Do they get that big that often over there?

I would assume that they eat them. There is a whole lot of catfish there. Wonder what it weighs?????
