Bobbie Fain took this “black” buck, outside the usual range of the melanistic deer, on the Rancho Encantado in Dimmit County, Texas, in 1997. Most melanistic deer live in Texas, with the highest number being around 150 miles northeast of this ranch. Photo by Gordon Whittington.

I have seen one on the king ranch on the south penia about 15 years ago. We called the parks and wildlife out and they cked it out . The ramrod on the ranch got with the king ranch people and they told us not to shoot it. We had the lease for 3 more years and never saw it agian. Figure the ranch traped it or something but they are awsome looking deer.

I don't know who Bobby Fain is but he sure didn't kill this deer. Nor did Gordon Whittingtontake the picture. I killed the deer and took the picture of my wife with it.

If your going to hijack pictures to try to see property at least get the facts right. The story about this deer was in North American Whitetail Magazine of which Whittington is the editor. I'm sure Gordon doesn't appreciate his name bring used erroniously either.
