Spanishcowboy, I would have never had the nerve to follow through with a cannonball like that young man did.
When I excepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, it was just before my 21st birthday. I decided that I wanted to be baptized by the pastor that had baptized my dad. As kids, my cousins and I would go to his house and we would open our bibles and tell him the chapter and verse. He would quote scripture as far as we wanted to go, even in the pulpit he would tell the congregation what chapter and verse to go to and he would use his photographic memory to recall the scripture. As a young boy I remembered he always had his bible on the pulpit but never opened it. Pastor Snodgrass was by now in his late 70's, I had known him all my life and worked with him a few times as his brick layer helper.
My birthday is in October and it was cold in Abilene, TX. I went to Pastor Snodgrass's house, which was next to the little rock church, and told him that I wanted to be baptized today, being my birthday and all. He wanted me to wait till tomorrow so that he could warm the water, but being my birthday he reluctantly open the old rock church and baptized me.
I didn't notice the water temperature, but he caught a cold the next day and had to stay in bed for several days.
Been saved by the blood of Christ and born again 27 years ago this October.
