MY FISHING PHILOSOPHY

First and foremost, client satisfaction is my priority. As a full time guide, freelance outdoor writer and touring pro, I am aware of the constantly changing tactics and techniques facing today's angler. I strive to stay abreast of these changes in order to educate both the beginning angler and the seasoned tournament fisherman on strategies that can be applied to any body of water.

PROFESSIONAL GUIDE SERVICE

Roger has over 10 years of tournament experience on Lake Sam Rayburn. Fishing in local, regional, and national tournaments, he has consistently placed in the money in circuits including Red Man, Anglers Choice, Everstart and Honey Hole.

SAM RAYBURN LAKE

Sam Rayburn offers some of the best fishing to be found anywhere in the nation. Nestled among tall pines and native hardwoods. This sprawling, Corps of Engineers impoundment, has very limited lakeside development, and as a result, it's uncluttered shoreline abounds with wildlife, including deer, eagles and migratory waterfowl of all kinds. With a current lake record of 16.80 lbs, "Big Sam" has few rivals for the title of "The Bass Factory of Texas".

WKM Outdoors

WKM Outdoors
Summary:

Welcome to WKM Outdoors. We are one of only a few experienced guided hunting operations still operating in the South Texas Plains Region. We offer to you as our customer only the most well managed hunting ranches and professional experience the state has to offer. The ranches we hunt are hard working brush country ranches that encompass 36,000 acres in Dimmitt, Frio, La Salle Uvalde, Webb and Zavala counties. Each of these counties are known and resepcted nationwide for consistant production of Boone and Crockett Record Book whitetail in the wild without any high fencing or genetic manipulation of the native deer herds since before the hunting industry became popular in the US.

All of our ranches are primed and well managed native pastures that constantly produce mature trophy whitetails in mass numbers. Unlike the states north of Texas where, although the deer populations are high, the management techniques and harvest standards in general are very relaxed and therefore creating a trophy opportunity at one of these huge whitetails is very low.

The difference in our operation and most of the others out there is simple. We're a fourth generation ranching family that not only outfits the ranches we hunt but also manages these ranches with an unwavering focus on the sound harvest practice of truly mature trophy whitetail and the overall quality condition of our wildlife herds. We have been taking hunters into the brush to hunt these huge whitetail and other native game species for over thirty years.

Texas is the only place in North America with the exception of Alaska that can offer the average sportsman or woman to be a part of such a diverse ecosystem. You couple that with our experience and commitment to your success outdoors and its a no brainer. We also take a special interest in the creation of a family environment to promote youth hunting opportunities as often as we can. We hope that you will take the time to email us or call to answer any questions you have concerning a hunt with us or for pricing and availability.

Vela Ranch

Vela Ranch
Summary:

The Vela Ranch is located between San Diego and Freer, 65 miles West of Corpus Christi, Texas. This area is known for its wildlife habitat and trophy whitetail deer.

Dr. Robert Vela, a practicing internal medicine physician in Corpus Christi, and a native of Duval County, purchased the ranch in 1990. Although initially acquired for recreational and limited cattle-breeding purposes, the Vela Ranch was rapidly transformed into a managed whitetail deer operation.

Over the last 12 years, we have enhanced our native deer herd by instituting an intensive management program. These measures have included high-fencing, supplemental/continuous feedings, food-plots, and introducing better genetics. Via the T.T.T. permits (transfer of deer) and the scientific breeder program, the genetic pool has improved drastically, producing beautiful, antlered bucks.

The scientific breeder program has become the heart and soul of the Vela Ranch. We release quality bred deer into the open range, adding diversity to the existing genetic pool.

The Vela Ranch encompasses nearly 1000 acres. The terrain is diverse, but mostly South Texas brush. The San Diego Creek traverses the property, providing fertile soil for a variety of forbs and shrubs with high nutritional value. Furthermore, six waterholes provide an excellent water source for the wildlife. Also, under the guidance of Victor Saenz II, long-time ranch and deer enthusiast, the native habitat is optimized by frequent discing of the senderos, food-plotting, and year-long supplemental protein feeding.

Limited management and trophy hunts are available this year. In addition, a limited number of one, two, and three year old bucks, does, fawns, and mature open and bred does are available for sale.

Valle Venado

Valle Venado
Summary:

Valle Venado Land & Cattle is a family operated business providing outstanding hunting opportunities for whitetail deer, Rio Grande Turkey, and Bobwhite quail in the Texas Panhandle. After many years of leasing our land to other sportsman, the decision was made this year to bring the hunting operation back “in house” and to build a premier operation which would provides the best hunting opportunities for the sportsman based upon their time constraints. In our first year of operation we have not concentrated on the “sell a hunt” but rather our concentration has been on establishing the needed infrastructure to provide an outstanding hunting opportunity. Our believe is that by providing this opportunity in a manner which we would expect as a paying customer, our hunts will sell themselves. As a side note, all pictures posted on this site have personally been taken by us (or our customers). We will not misrepresent our offering by posting pictures that are not representative of the ranch.

The ranch land located just south of Shamrock Texas in the north east Texas Panhandle is highly suited habitat for not only whitetail deer but also Rio Grande turkey and bobwhite quail. Mule deer have also been observed on the eastern half of the ranch. The ranch ranges from open grassy pastures to heavily covered shinnery and oak with multiple shelter belts. Several mesas are located on and adjacent to the property providing rough terrain around wet weather drainage areas. This topography along with the outstanding cover and forage has resulted in a haven for wildlife.

Valle Venado offers an exceptional opportunity for trophy class whitetail deer. With patience, it is highly probable that a 10pt buck will be seen, with a distinct possibility of harvesting that 12pt trophy whitetail deer. An abundance of Rio Grande turkey provides an excellent chance to use those “calling” skills and bring in that elusive longbeard during our spring hunts. Hunting opportunities at the ranch are broken into two operations with whitetail deer during the fall season and Rio Grande turkey during the spring season. There is limited quail hunting between these two primary seasons.

Texas Hidden Springs Ranch

Texas Hidden Springs Ranch
Summary:

Texas Hidden Springs Ranch is located approximately 1 hour from both the San Antonio and Austin, Texas airports. The ranch is intensely micro-managed ranch for quality whitetail deer. If you’re looking for a trophy wall-hanger buck, this is the place. Imagine having virtually no hunting pressure. Imagine hunting at a place where management bucks are considered trophies to most hunters. That’s what you’ll discover when you hunt at the Texas Hidden Springs Ranch.

Our deer management program has now been implemented long enough that the results are beginning to amaze everyone that hunts here. When we implemented this strict program, Dr. James Kroll (also known as "Dr. Deer") told the owners to “keep on track and one day it’ll look like you replaced your old deer with an entirely different deer herd”. Well, it happened! The deer have exploded and we are seeing more bucks in the 150's and 160’s in B&C range than ever before.

The ranch is under a strict game management program that is overseen by Keith Warren. Keith is a nationally known television hunting show host that has studied whitetail throughout North America. Keith’s experiences with dozens of the country's best whitetail ranches has made him uniquely qualified to run our deer program. A frequently asked question is “what is so special about Texas Hidden Springs Ranch?" Keith explains. “The only goal that exists on this ranch is to grow big whitetails. Everything that is done here is done to improve the quality of the deer herd. Our rut hunts are unbelievable. With year round supplemental feeding of Record Rack Deer Feeds, we now have bucks weighing more than 200 pounds and the antlers are getting better with each season. Extensive time is spent in the field each year identifying and patterning mature bucks. That is why our hunters have had such a high success rate. Our deer density is as high as any ranch I have ever visited. If there is a ranch where your odds of taking a mature buck are any better than the Texas Hidden Springs Ranch, I would like to know.”

The area Soil, Water & Conservation District presented the ranch with the prestigious “Outstanding Wildlife Conservationist Award”. Due to recent abundant rainfall, our pasture is in the best shape it has ever been in and the deer are as well. With surveillance cameras located throughout the ranch we monitor antler development, as well as the overall state of their health. We encourage you to look at some of these photos by checking out the "Photos" link above. It will give you a good idea of what you can expect to see while hunting at the Texas Hidden Springs Ranch, and how the deer are progressing throughout the year.
