On March 5, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) had decided that the greater sage-grouse was warranted for listing under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), but that the listing is precluded at this time due to higher priority listing actions, according to the Wildlife Management Institute. The decision establishes sage-grouse as a candidate species and allows states to continue to manage the species, including managed hunting where appropriate.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday drained the last bit of life from the city of Dallas and Texas Water Development Board plan to build a massive reservoir called Lake Fastrill along the Neches.   Instead, that land will become a wildlife refuge managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Sam Rayburn Reservoir March 6 for the second of five stops in the Cowboy Division series. As many as 400 pro and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) and Arsenal, Inc. announced today the launch of a new commemorative Jubilee Series AK-74 Kalashnikov rifle developed by Arsenal, Inc.  A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these rifles will be donated to the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) and the Kalashnikov Foundation. 

College Bass, the nation's elite collegiate fishing tournament, announced today that it will bring its West Super Regional event to Lake Tyler in Tyler, Texas Saturday, April 24-Sunday, April 25 making it the second consecutive year that the Lone Star state will host this regional tournament. The morning launches will take place at daybreak at the Lake Tyler Marina and the daily weigh-ins at Academy Sports + Outdoors (8668 South Broadway Ave.) at 3 p.m. CDT.
