Sort your results:Existing Search Criteria:Refine Your Search:Search Results:Turkey Call MaintenanceSummary: I always lightly sand my box call lids and re-chalk before the season starts. Also, if there is buildup on your edges, VERY GINGERLY use fine sandpaper to get the buildup off the edges. As for my slate calls, I use one of those 3m "greenie" scrubbers, and rub them in a circular motion on the slate...
Duckwhackers Wild TurkeySummary: I made this wild turkey recipe tonight, and it was a big hit and a crowd pleaser. We had wild turkey, wild rice, scalloped potatoes and grilled asparagus. I served it with a white muscadine (wild grape native to the southeast) wine. Ingredients 1 wild turkey breast half Bacon Orange Juice ...
New Spring Turkey HunterSummary:
You will need a facemask and gloves. You will need 3" #4 shot in your shotgun. If your shotgun is not camo, try and cover it with a camo sock or camo tape. You will also need a full choke at minimum. I like the Comp-N-Choke aftermarket choke tube in xxfull. Use a box or push button hen call. The key to turkey calling is to get a gobble response on that hen call and then sit down and shut up. Try to keep the calling at a minimum. Make the gobbler come hunting for the hen he thinks he heard. Hope this helps. We may get more time for the kids to huntSummary:
As someone whose son took advantage of each and every youth season (deer, turkey, and duck) for 10 years, and someone that bow hunts, I can see both sides of the issue. My son is now too old to take advantage of youth season, but I think it is more important to get kids into the woods and enjoying hunting success than whether or not I get an exclusive bow only season. The more the sport of hunting sees a drop in participation numbers, the more our rights as hunters will be threatened. I don't know about most of you out there, but the old timers that taught me how to hunt have all passed away, and the number of my friends and associates that hunt are few. At the end of the day, if we don't all work to get new hunters into the sport, none of us will have any season to enjoy.
Which Youth Model?Summary:
New England Arms makes a breech loading youth rifle/shotgun combo. It comes with an interchangeable shotgun and rifle barrel. The stock is the perfect size. I have one and many kids other than mine have killed deer with it. NEF gives you different combination options for the barrels, but I settled on a .20 ga. shotgun barrel and a .243 rifle barrel. The rifle will drive nails, and the shot gun is a great starter turkey, dove and duck gun. Having only one shot really teaches kids discipline and shooting skills. Rossi makes a similar set up, but it is much lighter, so it kicks more, and I don't think it is as nice a gun. Leaving TomorrowSummary: DoubleTHunter, Wingdinger, and I leave tomorrow for a weekend of feeder filling, blind building and DOVE SHOOTING. Much meat and cold beverages will be consumed. Bad shooting will be ridiculed to the point of tears. We will sweat like pigs and suffer chiggers and mosquitoes. It is going to be grea...
Vacuum SealerSummary: I got a vacuum sealer earlier in the year, and I used it to shrink wrap some wild turkey breasts. I opened one up and cooked it yesterday, and the quality of the meat was as good as the day I wrapped it. I highly recommend the product to anyone that stores meat in the freezer. Vacuum sealing extend...
