Just returned home from my 2nd trip to the Edmund Tom Ranch. My son shot a trophy Javalina within 10 minutes of arrival. The next morning he shot a nice 8 point buck in the free roam area with an 18.5 inch outside spread. A full moon and fog slowed us down the next day and a half, but as soon as the weather cleared we got shots at wild hogs and a doe. We saw lots, I mean lots of game. If your thinking about a trip to south texas to hunt, then the Edmund Tom Ranch is the place to go. The people, accomodations, meals everything is just great. This was my first year on the lease and I was more than happy with it. I saw lots of deer but unfortunatly didnt get a buck on the ground. I saw several bucks, on really nice one but i wasnt able to get a shot off. Overall its a good lease, not as many deer as south Texas but there are lots of big ones. 

I have hunted South Texas for 20 years and South Zone is by far the worst operation I have ever encountered. Dove Hunting requires local knowledge about flight patterns and bird locations. Everyone with South Zone lives outside the area so they depend entirely on word of mouth. Every landowner is going to tell them they hve plentiful birds so they can lease property. We went second weekend and averaged 5 birds per person per day. Second morning we went to open pasture. No Birds. The landowner told South Zone that birds fly only in afternoon at this location. As the "Guide" let us out he said "I am going to look for birds". This should have already been done. We were told the second morning that if we wanted to go where the birds were that we would need to pay additional $75. This place is not all inclusive so be prepared to fork over additional moneis once they locate the birds. In summary if you want to throw your money away, this is the place for you.

I do not care to ever talk to Jimmy again. When I hired him several years ago all he did was lie to me. I had many conversations with his via telephone and e-mail. He always seemed intoxicated to me. Remember at no time is it illegal to voice one’s own opinion.
