Summary: A round trip to Sam Houston National Forest is going to cost a few hundred bucks in fuel at today’s price. The birds you are looking at traveling to hunt are Eastern turkeys as where the birds in South Texas are Rio’s. There are a lot more Turkey in South Texas then East Texas so if killing a bird is a priority I suggest dishing out a few hundred bucks and hunt locally. Good luck and welcome to Texas.

Summary: Interesting but raised obvious question. Of the 100 nests how many were predated. Of those nests predated, how many by each of the predator species?
Dale Rollins did recent study with simulated nests and still cameras and in the Rolling Plains/San Angelo area I think racoons were the prime culprit. Any racoons in this study?

Summary: Any place that big and not hunted for 25yrs will have a lot of deer and surely have several wall hangers. However, just curious, how much are you going to have to pay for the huntiog rights? I know of a number of areas near you that will compete with South Texas on priceing. Lots of luck.

Summary: Allthough it would have been hard even for me to pass, you are a good hunter David. Best to let him go than to take the shot and wound him and loose him. Also, that gives him some more time to "spread his oats around some more"----maybe next year. What part of the country are you hunting? We hunt near Big Lake and I have seen some of those bucks with pick handle beams and broom handle tines. Most people think that only south texas has them but I know better.
