Big Caldwell area pig.

Big Caldwell area pig.
Summary: I shot this pig back in June at 11 yards. He was so big we had to use the landrover to drag him out. What a rush.

Blackpowder Doe

Blackpowder Doe
Summary: It was time to put some meat in the freezer after spending the last month chasing a massive 8 point on the lease. I did get one shot at him with the bow but had the misfortune of hitting a fence wire instead of the buck. This doe wasn't a monster but the meat is tasty. The 295gr powerbelt did the j...

Summary: Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I've signed in here on the forum. I hope everyone is doing well. I wanted to post a photo of my buddies buck which was shot in the Davy Crockett National Forest on Opening Day evening hunt. The buck is a great 8 pt and weighed in the 170lb range. We saw a to...

My brother scored on a Buck

My brother scored on a Buck
Summary: Well I guess the luck has jumped into my brothers back pocket. Tony was hunting our lease in Leander this morning and shot this nice 8 pt. He was just about to get down out of the stand around 9:30 when the buck stepped out. He made a good shot that took the buck done in just 40 yards.

Brother finally connected.

Brother finally connected.
Summary: My brother, Donny and son Riley and I went hunting again at the lease in Leander on Sunday evening. I say a nice trophy white house cat, an 8 pt and 3 doe but couldnt get a shot at the doe. Donny saw some small bucks and some doe out of range. Riley didn't see anything. My brother was the lucky one...

Summary:

I love finding sheds, kinda like a bonus. Very cool, hope you find another one of those big East Texas bucks to chase this fall.

I will be in your neck of the woods for rifle opener...my brother and I will be hunting the DCNF. We are taking off early Friday morning before opener to get a decent camping spot and maybe scout the Big Slough Wilderness area for some of those big East Texas swamp bucks. We will be camping at the camp off of HWY 21. We plan on doing some rattling and filming, hope we get lucky...pray for cold weather.

A buddy I hunt with was hunting the DCNF bow season 1998 and shot a nice 8 pt that went 126 and is in P&Y. He found one of the bucks sheds while he was tracking the buck after the shot and the buck would have been bigger the previous year. There was a drought in East Texas that year so the deer didn't get the same nutrition.

Whackin and Stackin

Summary: Well guys I went back to the lease yesterday to try for a doe and got lucky again. My brother and I got to the lease at about 5:25pm and headed for our stands. I hunted one of the front stands instead of the stand where I shot the buck because the wind was from the north. The evening was pretty unev...

Summary:

Thanks guys.

This was not only a great hunt but our group was field testing a new scent neutralizer suit that is called X-static. These are silver fiber suits and let me tell you everyone of us had deer directly downwind and nobody was winded. The tops and bottoms go for 25 to 30 dollars each depending on where you buy them. You can also get X-static online.

Now back to the hunt. We took off at 5:15am from my brothers house and arrived at the lease at 5:50am. We were on stand by 6 or 6:10am. My stand is a 12 ft tripod tucked into a stand of oak and cedar trees. The feeder is exactly 25 1/2 yards from the stand. At first light three doe came into the feeder. I thought about shooting the biggest doe but had to hold out because it was so early. Then I heard a couple other deer coming in but all were doe. By 7:20am I had 7 doe eating around the feeder. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw another deer coming thru the brush to my left. When his head came out of the brush it was this 8pt. He stood on the edge of opening for a minute or two. He came out and started feeding on the protein and corn and I had forgot to get my Binos out so I was trying to decide if he was the 13" minimum needed to be legal. I was taking my time and he just walked away, man I was not happy. Then he just popped back out, walked right out in front of me and turned to looked directly up into the trees where I was sitting. I could see the he was outside his ears so I knew that I wanted to take him. The Buck milled around eating and chasing the doe then finally settled down to eating again. I knew the distance to the feeder and he was directly under it but quartering towards me so I had to wait. Finally he turned and gave me the shot at 25 yards. I drew the PSE Firestorm lite and found my anchor point. I aligned the sights and squeezed the trigger on the release, THAWAK...complete passthru. The CarbonExpress Terminator arrows and Easton Outdoors 2 blade FirstCut heads did the job. It was like watching an over the shoulder video, I saw the arrow fly, hit, passthru and I could see the hole in his side before he even moved. The buck ran 10 yards to the back side of the opening and stood there for about 15 seconds, then just walked off. I waited and listened. It took maybe 20 seconds and I heard him crash. Well all that happened from 7:20 to 7:30 so now I had to wait to track the buck until 9:15 because the rest of the guys on the lease were still hunting. The wait didnt take that long because I was still hunting, hoping to get a doe for a opening morning double but it didnt happen. At 9:15 I got down and went to track the buck. I knew he was down but there was very little blood. I could hear the other guys coming and we ended up finding the buck just 50 yards back in the thick cover. His live weight was 144 lbs. I havent measured the antlers but I think he may go 105 inches maybe 110 not quite a P&Y but hey I'm happy. Here is another photo from there we found the buck.

Summary:

Cool deal, that was a good shot.

The 10pt finally polished up the antlers.

The 10pt finally polished up the antlers.
Summary: I'm sure if one of us get a shot we will take him. The lease is along the Parmer lane extension and we think the landowner will end up selling and this will be our last year.
