Summary: This summer the TexasHuntFish.com Team went to the National Shooting Center in San Antonio to watch the 4H Shooting Sports Texas State Championship Competition.
640 kids between the ages of 8 and 18, with families and friends watching, competed in several sports, including International Skeet, American Skeet and Trap. Biased by my 6th generation connection to Houston County, I was also there to cheer for my cousins, Katelyn and John Lenderman. There are for divisions:
The day we arrived, my cousin Katelynn won 1st Place, International Skeet, Seniors 2 Division. Last year she came home with 5 2nd Place trophies and this year she had one goal - win 1st Place in something. Mission accomplished. For those that do not know, (including me) I was told that International Skeet is an Olympic Sport. It differs from American Skeet in several ways: The clay targets (called pigeons or birds) travel much faster than American Skeet (I don't know how fast but it was hard to see them fly by). The clay targets are launched at random angles and at random elevation, where as American is not random. (Anyone who knows better should feel free to comment!) My understanding of American Skeet is that they shoot 25 shots from the "high house" and "low house" from 8 different positions called stations. Seniors 1 and 2 shoot a total of 100 shots and highest score wins. The other divisions shoot 75 shots. Ties are broke by a "sudden death" shoot off where the first person to miss looses. We also welcome people to comment, ask questions, and to all the people who attended, feel free to upload your own photos of kids shooting on this thread. We hope the kids enjoy the TexasHuntfish.com Shooting Towels we handed out. They disappeared quickly. Jason Video of Dove using Elcan Scope at 16.5x Zoom about 70 yards away
Summary:
16.5x Zoom Video of Dove using Elcan Scope. The purpose of this video is obviously not to suggest shooting a dove with a rifle, but rather just showing how on a deer hunt, you might use the scope to photograph or video other animals you encounter. If you back off to 9x or 11x Zoom, the image quality improves greatly. A dove is a small video target at 70 yards, but imagine a coyote, fox or a management buck. Summary:
Some people take naps when they get back in front the morning hunt. With 70,000 acres to hunt, I wasn't concerned with the noise of shooting a couple of guns near the camp house. After watching me test a Bushmaster .223, it was time to test a serious HOG GUN. The Benelli M4 Super 90 with an EOTech Holographic Scope, shooting a .12 Gauge Slug. We set up a Grapefruit at 50 yards. I already knew the gun could shoot a consistent 4" group at this distance so my trusty Mule Deer Guide wanted to see what it felt like. I think he was happy. Jason Parrish failed Product Review attempt (caught almost on film)
Summary:
Most websites only show you the high quality, professional looking photos and videos and would never want you to see all of the wasted time, video tape, and minor injuries involved with trying to do Field Reports and Product Reviews. In this video, I am testing a Gun & Bow Camera Mount product (deerridgeinnovations.com) which we are still working on as we gather footage from different hunts. The video of the skeet is me shooting a .12 guage Winchester Model 101. I met these guys at TTHA Extravaganza DFW. Then there is some video of us trying to test a Ritz Cracker thrower for the advanced skeet shooter. In the one shot of me throwing the Ritz Cracker (white tshirt) the camera man is my father. I liked his wide angle excuse. The upside down angle on the tree was not staged. Nor was the pain I was in. And finally, the Ritz Cracker salesman really did say a "ten year old could do this". I guess I am mentally a 9 year old. Varmint Hunt with Mr. Whiskers Guide Service, Mike Stuard, Valera, TX

I have never seen this before, but it makes perfect sense when you think about shooting a gun in that heavy, moist, early morning air. Here is a screen shot from the upcoming video. I think it is the "steam trail" of the bullet flying through the air. Hunting Grapefruit at the Stovall Ranch by Jason Parrish
Summary:
Some people take naps between the morning and afternoon hunt. I can't sleep. On a serious note, I have been wanting to video shooting different rounds of different calibers at different types of fruit to demonstrate the effectiveness of the bullet. I am shooting Hornady Varmint Express Ammunition 223 Remington 55 Grain V-Max using a Bushmaster "V-Match Rifle" with a 5x leupold scope and jewel trigger. This is one of my favorite guns. 45 results found Next Page >Showing results 1 through 10
