Young Boy Stalks Javelina

Young Boy Stalks Javelina
Summary:

Not sure how I feel about this video.  Would you send your kid out there with his gun and yell at him to shoot the gun?  Can't quite tell how old the boy hunter is but either way he gets pretty darn close to the Javelina.

American Whitetail Authority - Hunting Purely For Sport

American Whitetail Authority - Hunting Purely For Sport
Summary:

I am not sure that this is even real but thought I should present it to ya'll and get some feedback.

So many people have talked negative of the idea of hunting as a pure sport. Where is world hunt association today? What happened to them? What political backlash did they receive?

To a quote a certain member of the TexasHuntFish team:

"The critical difference between bass fishing and deer hunting is that my grandmother fished for food, not fun. People can fish for fun, catch and release, and go home.

How do you shoot a deer – and then catch/release? Can’t. Must be killed. Can’t be done just for fun. Bottom line. Period."

Excellent points and something to think about.

Your thoughts?

The Young Guns - The 2006 4H Shooting Sports State Championship

The Young Guns - The 2006 4H Shooting Sports State Championship
Summary: This summer the TexasHuntFish.com Team went to the National Shooting Center in San Antonio to watch the 4H Shooting Sports Texas State Championship Competition.

640 kids between the ages of 8 and 18, with families and friends watching, competed in several sports, including International Skeet, American Skeet and Trap. Biased by my 6th generation connection to Houston County, I was also there to cheer for my cousins, Katelyn and John Lenderman.

There are for divisions:
Junior (ages 8-11)
Intermediate (ages 12-13)
Seniors 1 (ages 14-15)
Seniors 2 (ages 16-18)

The day we arrived, my cousin Katelynn won 1st Place, International Skeet, Seniors 2 Division. Last year she came home with 5 2nd Place trophies and this year she had one goal - win 1st Place in something. Mission accomplished.

For those that do not know, (including me) I was told that International Skeet is an Olympic Sport. It differs from American Skeet in several ways:

The clay targets (called pigeons or birds) travel much faster than American Skeet (I don't know how fast but it was hard to see them fly by).

The clay targets are launched at random angles and at random elevation, where as American is not random. (Anyone who knows better should feel free to comment!)

My understanding of American Skeet is that they shoot 25 shots from the "high house" and "low house" from 8 different positions called stations.

Seniors 1 and 2 shoot a total of 100 shots and highest score wins. The other divisions shoot 75 shots. Ties are broke by a "sudden death" shoot off where the first person to miss looses.

We also welcome people to comment, ask questions, and to all the people who attended, feel free to upload your own photos of kids shooting on this thread.

We hope the kids enjoy the TexasHuntfish.com Shooting Towels we handed out. They disappeared quickly.

Thanks anyway, but I've got all the ribbons I need.  As far as rifle/caliber suggestions go, I like the Remington 700, .22 centerfires.  Especially the .223 and 22-250 both using 55 gr. bullets like the Hornady SP or Nosler Ballistic Tips.  These calibers kick very little, yet hit hard, shoot flat, and usually produce one-shot, instant kills on animals weighing between 10-40 lbs.  I usually try to avoid taking head shots which are always risky business at long range.  I usually aim center mass and have always had favorable results doing so.  There are my suggestions to you.
