I Got Lucky.

Summary: I had a buddy here at work call me the other day and make a proposal to me for this hunting season. Seems that my friend of his needs some cedar cleared off of their ranch near Burnet, Texas and the Government will pay her $25 per acre. We went out yesterday to take a look around and start the clear...

duck hunting 06-07 season.

Summary: I tell ya what guys once you start duck hunting you will be hooked. Nothing like calling in a group of ducks and watching them land into your decoys, well if they make it that far in without catching steel. I plan on doing some duck hunting this season, its been a few years sense I busted out the decoys and waders.

Summary:

I love finding sheds, kinda like a bonus. Very cool, hope you find another one of those big East Texas bucks to chase this fall.

I will be in your neck of the woods for rifle opener...my brother and I will be hunting the DCNF. We are taking off early Friday morning before opener to get a decent camping spot and maybe scout the Big Slough Wilderness area for some of those big East Texas swamp bucks. We will be camping at the camp off of HWY 21. We plan on doing some rattling and filming, hope we get lucky...pray for cold weather.

A buddy I hunt with was hunting the DCNF bow season 1998 and shot a nice 8 pt that went 126 and is in P&Y. He found one of the bucks sheds while he was tracking the buck after the shot and the buck would have been bigger the previous year. There was a drought in East Texas that year so the deer didn't get the same nutrition.

Whackin and Stackin

Summary: Well guys I went back to the lease yesterday to try for a doe and got lucky again. My brother and I got to the lease at about 5:25pm and headed for our stands. I hunted one of the front stands instead of the stand where I shot the buck because the wind was from the north. The evening was pretty unev...

early teal season

Summary: Yes as long as we get some cooler weather the skeeters will not be able to bite you thru your coat.

Are you going to get it out of your system?

Summary: I want some meat so something has to expire. I will hope to see one of the good bucks from the pictures but a nice fat doe would do just fine this early in the season.

Summary: Thats some expensive meat my friend.

Sam Houston NF

Summary: Cool deal Chris, just remember that these places can get crowded during the season so you need to find a place that is either out of the way or a place that is really hard to hunt so the rest of the crowd stays away.  Cool pics.

Summary:

Thanks guys, we are pumped. bad thing is this could be the last year for hunting the area because of the Parmer Lane extention. Things are looking good, we put the camera out last Saturday afternoon and these pictures were on it monday along with 140 more. The deer really took to the high protein/corn mix we have in the feeders. We also have big water barrels that the deer really use. The lease is only 20 acres but it is just 15 minutes from my front door an covered with deer. It's a cool lease because we also get to hunt crossbow during rifle season and with the new antler restriction we get to take out some of the spike bucks. The crossbow hunting allows us to take the kids for an evening deer hunt and be home for dinner.

Next we have to setup the ranch for rifle. We are hoping to get the hogs coming in and maybe a few deer for rifle. I will be headed down there this weekend to fill the feeders and fix-up some blinds. I'm sure we will do a little fishing. Will post pics if I remember to take some.
