I just bought one myself. Marlin 1895G. The reason I bought that gun is because I like my T/C hawken .45 cal. black powder. The T/C loaded with 100 gr. of black powder shoots a 280 gr. lead bullet at around 1800 fps. Almost exactly the same as factory 300 gr 45/70. I have shot 2 deer and one hog with my T/C, and they all three folded up like a wet napkin. I was surprised at the lack of meat damage. And the 45-70 did not kick nearly as hard as I had anticipated. Can't wait til next season. The Marlin Guide gun will be my primary deer gun in 2010. FS: Binos/Ammo/Misc. Hunting stuff

Need somewhere near Austin for first time hog hunter.....Summary:
Looking to book a boar / feral pig hunt for free if possible. From what I understand these are considered nusiance animals. Call me the cleaner:) I would like to find a ranch/farm who wants some pigs hunted down. Not sure about season, fees for license or anything else but if you don't mind, I'll grab a few respectful, responsible pals and we'll take them off your land/hands. public turkey and quailSummary:
Howdy! Quail is kind of thin in many areas. Eastern Turkey hunting beginning April 1st is in a number of East Texas counties. That being said, call the wildlife biologist assigned to the public land you intend to hunt. There are lots of public land places that say they have quail or a turkey season, but you would never find either one on many of the WMAs. Your best bet is to search the Annual Public Hunt booklets, then make some phone calls. Good luck! Always, Gene
Public Ducks!Summary:
I talked to some duck hunters on lake Wright Patman during deer season about ducks. They said they did not do good on big ducks. They found some woodys in the timber. We had alot of rain here starting in October.Late in the deer season I started seeing mallards in the woods along the lake.Didn't see enough ducks to make me want to get out there though.Just to much water,to many places to lite. Using flour to attract hogsSummary:
Good luck, we had already been trying diseal corn, corn mixed with beer to get sour, and bread etc... The best thing that had been working was our hog pipe we set up in the sendero, but it would only get hit once or twice a month, then we tried the flour, it worked!!! Now that deer season is over we are going to focus primarily on hog hunting and trying to shoot a huge boar that is roaming our plcae and is estimated to weigh between 400 to 500 lbs, but is very smart and only comes out early in the am or during the night. Hog Hunting (LBJ National Grasslands)Summary:
Howdy! I don't know much about LBJ National Grasslands; however, I suggest that you give the wildlife biologist there a call about what is available for hunting and the season. Also, there are some Corps of Engineers places around the state that offer hunting. And look on the Texas Parks and Wildlife website for WMAs to hunt hogs, etc. Good Luck! Always, Gene
212 B/C Buck
Summary: Masterson Ranch owned by the Bill Masterson family and managed by Robert Masterson. I would be very surprised if any protein is fed out on this ranch. Having some land in this area I have seen some pretty impressive bucks taken off other ranches in the area such as the Pitchfork,Tongue River and 6666. There are no high fences up in this neck of the country.........just good wildlife management without all the modern tools....I think the protein is in the red soil...I was raised in Munday and Knox county is also providing some really good hunting oportunities . The one buck tag helps a lot and we are finally getting to take out a few does and spikes during the off season. All looks good if the rains keep up.
