What rifle do you hunt whitetail with?

Summary:

Browning A-bolt 280 with the BOSS...love the gun and it kicks like a .410.  Im shooting a 150 gr bullet at 2900 fps and it pretty much kills everything I manage to hit.

The only drawback is the gun is incredibly loud with the BOSS, have to wear hearing protection or it will literally hurt your ears.

Did I buy the wrong rifle?

Summary:

Hello everyone, I haven't been online here in some time but thought this was as good a time as any to toss in my 2 cents worth. I have shot the 270 and 30-06 extensively and there is really no difference in recoil when you use the same weight bullet. Don't feel like you settled for anything less than great when you purchased the 270, you will love the gun and the kick really isn't that bad.

My personal choice is the 280, i am a sucker for the 7mm caliber.

25-06 or .270

Summary: 25-06, 270 or 280 are all great calibers and very versatile, these were all candidates when I purchased my last rifle. I personally chose the 280 because I love the 7mm caliber and the large number of bullet weights that are availiable 115 gr up to 200 gr. The 270 is a great caliber and the manufacturers have started to put out more choices for bullet weight in the past couple of years. As for the 25-06, I love the caliber and almost bought one when I purchased my 280. I have seen a 25-06 take out deer at 250yds+ and cottontails at 200yds in the right hands. The 25-05 also has heavier available bullet weights up to 120gr and the 243 only 105 gr. No offense Wheeless621 but I think the 25-05 is much more versatile than the 243 or the 6mm. Don't get me wrong, every caliber I have mentioned will do the job on any native game here in Texas. But to put me on the spot for all around out of the two you posted, I would go with the 270. You will never be dissatisfied with the 270. If you wanted to you could even take Elk with the 270 but the 25-06 would be way undergunned. Good luck and let us know what you pick.

Bullets??

Summary:

I bet you will get better penatration with the 100gr bullet. Although the 80gr bullet will definitely kill Mule deer as you have proved I think it is designed more for varmints. Just my opinion. I do not hunt Mule deer, only the Whitetail, and I prefer a 130gr to 140gr bullet. I shoot a 7X57 and have shot reloads exclusively for the past 12 years. The 7mm caliber has allowed me to reload bullets in weights from 175gr to 115gr so I have done a lot of experimenting. The 175gr was devestating on anything that I hit and the 115gr hp was extremely explosive. I have setteled on the 139gr Hornady. This is no long range rifle but for most of my hunting in the National Forests and State Lands of Texas it is perfect. At 100 to 200 yards it is deadly and that is the longest shot I would ever get in these hunting areas.  So I think that going up to the 100gr bullet for the 243 is a good choice and I bet any loss of trajectory will hardly be noticed. I guess you will let us know how the reloads work when it warms up.

Whats the best 4 wheeler out there for the money?

Summary: I also like the Honda Recon 250 that I purchased a year ago. Although it is only 2 wheel drive I have not had any trouble in the mud. Just two weeks ago a friend and I went down to my lease and did some work. The honda really got put through some test. I weigh about 230 lbs and my friend is around 220 lbs and we were both on the 4 wheeler along with a 12ft ladder stand, a 6ft tripod stand, tools, a loc-on tree stand, 20 screw-in tree steps, 2 pistols and a rifle all weighing a total of 550lbs. We had no trouble getting thru the mud. There are so many brands now that it is hard to choose. I chose the Recon because of the price($3600 brand new). My brother has a Yamaha Grizzley 600, nice but way too big for what I need and too expensive ($7,000). Its all about what you need it for and the price you can afford.

You guys wanna start some Trivia?

Summary: What caliber rifle has the most accurate shooting bullet? This is not necessarily the flattest shooting bullet but the most accurate.

Trivia continued!

Summary: The numbers 56-56 came from the dimensions, in hundredths of an inch, of the cartridge case's base and mouth. The rifle was the Spencer Model 1860. This was tough one Ike, I really had to dig on the internet to find the answer.

New Iraqi Towns

Summary: I got any idea, take your deer rifle and shoot them at 100 yds. LOL

Where Were Headed

Summary: You're sound asleep when you hear a thump outside your bedroom door. Half awake, and nearly paralyzed with fear, you hear muffled whispers. At least two people have broken into your house and are moving your way. With your heart pumping, you reach down beside your bed and pick up your...

Lets go hog hunting

Summary:

Well i have decided to bring along the Blackpowder rifle on the hog hunt. I think the 300 gr. bullet will do the job fine and I really don't get to hunt with the rifle very often. Here is a check list that the landowner said would help on the hunt.

4x4 truck. the fields are irrigated so it will be muddy

Snake leggins - lots of rattlers

spot light and flash lights

bug spray lots of it.
