Took place near Taylor, TX, at the Spanish Oak Hunt Club, and although I attended one of the chapter's training days last fall, it was my first test event. Part of my agreement with Arrow's breeder was ...
planted pigeonsSummary:
Yeah, you want to try and not dizzy them too much or plant them in too thick of cover (where they won't be able to get up if the dog comes in on them).
Oh, and avoid this method with quail -- I have had the large majority of pen-raised quail fail to flush. If the dog repeatedly catches the bird, it can create some real problems (at least for those of us with pointing dogs).
Mossberg Silver Reserve 12ga
Summary:
Thanks. Here are a couple of pics. If it does not sell quickly, I will either keep it or only entertain higher offers. Just need the extra cash to finance something else that has come up, and I am not willing to part with my Berettas. This would be a great dove, duck, quail, or even turkey gun. You won't be afraid to take it afield but it still looks sharp.
Bobcat pointers?Summary: Okay fellas, a little help if you could . . . I got my quail lease again this year but have it up through Spring Turkey season this time. It allows me to hunt varmints and small game as well. The lease is small (75 acres) but plenty of game and is located near San Angelo. It is primarily thick ...
New scopes for saleSummary: I have two brand new in the box Leupold VX-1 3-9 x 40mm scopes for sale. These quality variable scopes have a lifetime full guarantee, duplex reticle, and a gloss black finish. Retail for $239. One of the scopes is absolutely mint condition. I'll sell it for $150 plus actual shipping. The sec...
What weapon do you....Summary: For deer I use primarily a Remington Model 700 BDL in 30.06 and topped with a variable Bushnell scope.
My favorite handgun is the Glock in .40 cal -- not any hunting with it, mind you, but when carrying a weapon for protection it fits the bill perfectly. Ultra reliable, simple, and effective when chambered in a large enough calibre.
But hands-down my favorite hunting/shooting is with a shotgun. Just started hunting birds a couple of years ago and absolutely became addicted fast. In those couple of years I have acquired four shotguns and like different things about each of them. For upland birds I like a double barrel; for dove and waterfowl I like a semi-auto. I also have an 870 Express Super Mag that is a great field gun, and I have a nice little 20 gauge SxS that I am looking forward to using on some quail this winter. My overall favorite is probably my new Beretta O/U in 12 gauge, but the Xtrema is a way fun gun, too. Glad I can't own just one!
Public Pheasant huntingSummary:
If anyone is familiar enough with the area and is willing, we should organize a group event for public land phez/quail. It is so far that most of us do not want to drive 8 hours or more to scout it -- we need a little more info about where to go to have at least a reasonable chance of finding some birds. Anyone willing to set this up? Others interested in joining in if it happens?
Dove Lease NW of MetroplexSummary: Last year I was on George Green's season long dove lease in Young and Throckmorton Counties. Today I received a letter from him saying he is now taking reservations for this coming season. Last year, given the drought, things were pretty tough but so far things are shaping up better this year -- ...
