Windwood Ranch has gone from strength to strength through intensive management over the past 20 years, and we now produce, among other trophy animals, world-class trophy Fallow and Axis deer at a fraction of the price of hunting the same quality of animal in Europe! Plus you have the added advantage of hunting close to home and can enjoy the wonderful hospitality that South Texas is famous for... AND, you get to hunt in relatively comfortable weather!

Apart from the super Axis and Fallow deer on offer, Windwood also has great opportunities for Whitetail, trophy Elk and quality Blackbuck. For extra fun, throw in an exciting night-time knife-hunt for ferral hogs with dogs... more excitment that you can handle! Fabulous hunting for dove, quail and turkey in season is available, too!

And when all the hunting gets a little too much for you, take a soak in the covered outdoor hottub or fine-tune your marksmanship on the skeet range. At the end of the day you can relax around the campfire and enjoy fine South Texas cuisine and an entertaining tale about the day's hunt...

Windwood Ranch offers the definitive South Texas hunt...

Big Game Management

Big Game Management
Summary:

Big game management is happy to make trophy whitetail hunting affordable and fun. We are located in renowned Shackelford County of North Central Texas. Shackelford has earned its well-established reputation for prolific open-range big buck production; true Boone & Crockett book potential year after year.

This country, with it's rugged topography dominated by mesquite covered hills, rolling planes, and dipping brushy canyons, has proven to hold some "super bucks", some of the largest whitetails in Texas.

Our headquarters is located Albany, Texas, and our properties are located within 20 minutes of town. We offer trophy whitetail hunts on several different ranches, totaling more than 10,000 acres. We have a healthy deer population, excellent buck: doe ratio, and a quality buck (8 pts. or better) ratio greater than 60%.

Big game guides each have in excess of 15 years local hunting experience. We only offer rifle hunts, where 100% opportunity can be expected on harvesting a 130 class B & C buck or better. Our high success rates can be attributed to minimal hunting pressure, and trophy buck game management practices on most all of the large ranches which dominate our county.

On an average 4-day hunt you can expect to see 30-75 bucks (60% 8 pts or better). With our year round and high protein feed programs, and some consistent and /or timely precipitation this year, we should be in for another "rack attack".

In the spring of 2008, we have already had over 12" inches of rain which has produced a thriving environment for nutrition for all our game animals. With that in mind we expect to harvest several 150-160 class B & C bucks or even larger, some real "wall hangers" .

Buffalo Mountain Hunts

Buffalo Mountain Hunts
Summary:

Hi, I’m H. J. Ledbetter, Jr. and I would like to welcome you to Buffalo Mountain Hunts. As the name implies, we have hunts for the great North American Bison more commonly known as buffalo, but don’t stop there… we also have outstanding hunts for Whitetail deer and Rio Grande turkey. We are located upon the Callahan Divide just south of Abilene, Texas.

Come on into our site and stay for a while. See why we think we offer some of the premier archery and black powder big game hunts for whitetail deer, Rio Grande turkeys, and buffalo in the nation. Big game hunting on Buffalo Mountain Ranch is generally restricted to archery and black-powder equipment. However, there are some exceptions: we allow modern smokeless powder shotguns for hunting turkey, quail, dove and varmints; we allow modern small-bore center fire rifles to hunt varmints; we allow modern .45-70 rifles to hunt buffalo as well. Other exceptions are on a case-by-case basis.

We know that bringing a rifle on public transportation or aircraft can be difficult, so we have a limited number of black powder and smokeless rifles, shotguns, small center fire varmint rifles, for you to use. Just call to reserve one when you book your hunt. We will familiarize you with a loaner weapon at our firing range before the hunt begins. Caps and black powder are available in Abilene.

Our Hunting Manager, Rick Worley, an accomplished archer and bowhunter for both whitetail deer and turkey, is available to answer your questions, and to help you set up your hunt.

CDP Ranch

CDP Ranch
Summary:

CDP Ranch is a 100 acre, family owned ranch located in Brewster County, Texas. The ranch is less than a mile from the northwest boundary of Big Bend National Park.  This ranch, which is tucked into the rugged back country of the Chihuahua Desert is home to herds of Javelina and covies of Scaled Quail.  The Javelina, or Collared Peccary as it is officially known, is a native to the warmer regions of the Americas.  In the United States, Javelinas are found only in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, and then, only in the regions of those states which are along the Mexican border.  Javelinas resemble pigs, however, they are only distantly related to feral pigs which originated in Europe

Collins Creek Ranch

Collins Creek Ranch
Summary:

Come hunt the historic Collins Creek Ranch located 15 miles North of Albany, Texas on U. S. Highway 283 in Northern Shackelford County.  Collins Creek Ranch consists of 5,000 acres of prime wildlife habitat.  The combination of rolling hills and thick mesquite and the fact that the Clear Fork of the Brazos runs through the ranch makes it a hunters paradise.  This area of Texas has for the past 10 years produced some of the finest hunting opportunities anywhere.  The whitetail deer were introduced again to this area in the early 40's.  With the big ranches and limited hunting pressure the herds have multiplied and make for a great hunt.  The miles of river and its lumbering Pecan trees makes even the most seasoned turkey hunter shiver.  With a little help from mother nature this area can wear out the best pair of hunting boots and most seasoned bird dog with numerous coveys per day.
