President Obama Signs Legislation to Allow Concealed Carry on National Parks and Refuges

Summary:

On Friday May 22nd, President Obama signed the Credit Card Holder Bill of Rights.  This bill contained a provision allowing individuals to lawfully carry their concealed firearms on National Parks and Refuges if the state in which the park or refuge is located allows for concealed carry.

SCI Files Brief in support of Right-To-Carry Rule in National Parks and Wildlife Refuges.

Summary:

SCI has filed an amicus curiae (friend of the court) brief in support of new rules that allow people to carry concealed and loaded firearms on hundreds of millions of acres of National Park Service and Wildlife Refuge lands in accordance with the relevant state law.  The rule change went into effect on January 9, 2009. Previously, firearms carried in these Federal lands had to be unloaded, inoperable, and inaccessible (with some exceptions, e.g., while legally hunting).

Summary: In response to Safari Club International's efforts, the Department of the Interior has acknowledged the acceptability of artificial water developments for wildlife conservation and management on National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management and Fish and Wildlife Service administered lands.
